Amid the backlash, Olympic medallist Ariarne Titmus slammed Sydney, asking her to respect female athletes and "do better" rather than amplify such ads.

Sydney Sweeney has once again found herself at the center of a controversy over her bold life choices. The Euphoria star recently appeared in a debatable September 2026 advertisement for Novig, a sports trading and prediction market platform. The video ad and accompanying photoshoot featured a 'game-day' theme where Sydney appeared bare-bodied. She covered parts of her body with various sports equipment, such as a racket and soccer balls.
In the ad, the Christy actress also performed a series of mock sports, including tennis, golf, baseball, and ice hockey. The ad campaign clip went viral online, with many criticizing Sydney's choice in endorsement projects. Following that, Sydney took to her Instagram Stories and shared a series of photos of athletes from the same nude campaign, including Serena Williams, Ronda Rousey, Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, Rob Gronkowski and Jason Kelce.
It was seen by the public as Sydney Sweeney's way of hitting back at the backlash. Amid that, retired Olympic-winning Australian swimmer Ariarne Titmus condemned the Novig ad featuring Sydney, saying, "I can't describe how infuriated I feel when I watch this." According to Ariarne, the ad undermined women who spent years building careers in sports with utmost dedication and hard work. In her words:
"Not only is it a kick in the face to every woman who has dedicated her life to perfecting her craft but every woman who enjoys sports for what it really is- teamwork, friendship, dedication, excellence, unity…the list goes on...To take the mickey like this. I thought we were genuinely moving past this bulls**t."
Ariarne Titmus also questioned what message the ad was sending to young men and women. To her, the nudity seemed unnecessary and derogatory. She slammed Sydney Sweeney for being part of such a campaign as a woman and an influential public figure. The two-time Olympic gold medalist's exact words were:
"What is this teaching the young men and women of today?...Sydney Sweeney, do better."

Sydney Sweeney fully immerses herself in her roles, giving it her all, even when they involve nudity. She has mentioned that she has no problem filming bare-body scenes if it's necessary to capture her character's depth fully. She has delivered multiple NSFW scenes in Euphoria,The Housemaid and more, and wants to keep doing such scenes if she gets offers. In her words:
“I don’t get nervous. I gained so much confidence and self-awareness on Euphoria. I think that the female body is a very powerful thing. And I’m telling my character’s story, so I owe it to them to tell it well and to do what needs to be done.”
Notably, even after receiving backlash for her on-screen nudity, Sydney Sweeney shared her decision to keep taking up such racy roles to make society more accepting of female stars doing bold scenes. Sydney mentioned she wouldn't ever be able to completely move past the hate she received for her role in Euphoria; however, she was open to a conversation about it.
