Sushmita Sen won hearts at the mere age of eighteen when she walked on the ramp in the Philippines, in 1994, and brought home the first Miss Universe title. At the young age of 24, Sushmita created history in India by adopting a baby girl and fighting in court for her right. Later, she adopted another daughter, leaving the entire nation in awe.

Sushmita Sen was born in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, on November 19, 1975. Her father, Shubeer Sen was a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander. On the other hand, her mother, Subhra Sen, is a jewellery designer and owns a store in Dubai. Shubeer Sen was hailed as a brave ex-air force officer commissioned in October 1966. He served the nation until he took voluntary retirement in April 1991.
Sushmita Sen takes immense pride in being called the daughter of the Indian Air Force Wing Commander, Shubeer Sen. In an interaction with Outlook, Sushmita Sen revealed that her father is highly spiritual. She called him 'her spiritual' side. She added that he taught her 'let it go' in life. On the other hand, her mother is the aggressive one, who taught her never to be scared of failure.

It was in 2000 when Sushmita Sen took the bold decision to adopt her first daughter at the mere age of 24. She was single, young and fertile, which was the major blockage in her case. Once in interaction with Twinkle Khanna, Sushmita revealed how her father reacted to a shocking question asked by the judge in the courtroom.
We all agree that in the early 2000s, the concept of a single mother was taboo, especially for unmarried girls. However, it was her father, who supported her through it all. While talking to Twinkle, Sushmita recalled that the judge asked her father, Shubeer Sen, whether he worried about her marriage after adoption. Her father replied confidently that he had not raised his daughter to be someone's wife. Quoting him, Sushmita had said:
"She has chosen this motherhood and one thing I know my daughter to do is follow through."
Well, Sushmita Sen's father, Shubeer Sen, definitely raised a strong woman who inspired many young women and single mothers. This father-daughter duo proved that all you need is courage and will to pursue your dreams.
