Duffer Brothers Confirmed 'Stranger Things' Spin Off With A New Mythology, 'Really Excited About...'

Stranger Things officially came to an end on January 1, 2026, with the release of the finale episode. However, ever since its premiere, multiple fans have been speculating the possibility of a spin-off. Some publications also found an old interview of Finn Wolfhard, in which he has hinted at something. Well, now the creators of the show, Duffer Brothers revealed if the show will return with another season of a spin-off.

Duffer Brothers hint at the possibility of the Stranger Things world to expand

After the amazing response of Stranger Things season 5, Duffer Brother sat down for a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, during which they opened up about the possibility of a spin-off. They revealed that they are not interested in continuing the show just for the sake of it; however, they hinted at a spin-off as they shared that they are not allowed to say anything about it. Matt Duffer was quoted as saying:

"I mean, I guess a sequel could be about a midlife crisis. That just sounds really uninteresting! (laughs) Grandpa Hopper? I don’t know how that would read as anything but a gross cash grab to me. I wish I could talk a little bit more about the spinoff, but I’m not allowed to yet. But Ross and I are really excited about exploring new characters and a new mythology, but still very much are interested in telling a story in the spirit of Stranger Things."

Duffer Brothers revealed that the spin-off will answer all the questions

During the same chat with The Hollywood Reporter, the Duffer Brothers also shared that while the main story has come to an end, they left a few mysteries unanswered. And in future, if a spin-off is made, it will give answers to them. According to them, the questions are about 'Henry's' past, the mysterious rock and more. They also explained that the spin-off won't be completely about them, but it will tie up those loose ends. Matt Duffer shared:

"The spinoff is not about rocks or mining the rocks, but I would say that’s the loose end that’s not tied up that will be tied up. This spinoff does connect and will answer some of the lingering questions. It’s not specifically about the Mind Flayer or the Upside Down, but hopefully it provides some answers to that at least those lingering questions related to Henry’s memory."

When Finn Wolfhard hinted at a spin-off three years ago

While speculating the possibility of a spin-off, some users found an old interview of Finn Wolfhard, in which the Stranger Things fame was seen giving a hint about the spin-off. Interestingly, the interview is three years old. In the same, Finn had shared:

"Oh, they're all going to have us back in 20 years, we're all going to be fat and old and being like, 'Eleven, where are you?' you know, that kind of thing."
