'Stranger Things 5' Finale Trailer Has Six Clues That Might Shape The Final Battle Against 'Vecna'

One of the most beloved Netflix shows, Stranger Things, will release its finale in less than 24 hours, and fans have been watching and rewatching previous seasons, interviews, and even teasers to find out what will happen. The final episode of Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 3 will be released on December 31, 2025 (ET). Here is what the trailer has hinted at so far.

Military visits the Hawkins Lab

The trailer for Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 3 opened with the military hummers rolling up on the Hawkins Lab. Which seems to be the same place 'Eleven' and 'Hopper' are also headed towards. The father-daughter duo is all set to battle 'Vecna' in his mind, and the clip confirmed that the gang will not just be fighting the greatest villain but also the military. However, it seems like 'Hopper', 'Kali', and 'Murray' have some tricks up their sleeves to fight off the military, as the trailer also shows a massive explosion.

The two groups and the fight against 'Vecna'

The trailer further showed the Hawkins gang splitting into two groups that work together in the Upside Down. While 'Eleven', 'Kali', 'Murray', and 'Hopper' take over the mission at the Hawkins Lab to save 'Holly', 'Derek', and the kids, the other group has climbed the radio tower at The Squawk. That group includes 'Dustin', 'Nancy', 'Jonathan', and 'Robin'.

Did 'Steve' just die?

The trailer also showed 'Dustin' scream as someone has died, and 'Steve's' absence could be a hint at one of the most heartbreaking clues in the trailer. While there is no obvious answer to what the heartwrenching cry refers to, the audience fears the worst for one character, 'Steve Harrington'. No matter what happens in the finale, it's clear that the fans will need a bunch of tissues to get through the final battle. But this, for sure, feels like the perfect set-up to get 'Steve' fans a little more worked up heading into the finale.

'Vecna' to target 'Hopper' in Stranger Things finale?

Whatever happens when the two worlds collide, it looks like 'Hopper' will be facing 'Vecna' heads-on in the final showdown. The trailer hints at 'Hopper' drawing his gun, looking around in some kind of haze, followed by a clip of 'Vecna' trailing behind him. While the much-awaited face-off doesn't seem to be taking place in the Upside Down, it has definitely left fans curious to see if 'Hopper' actually makes his way into the mindscape, or possibly even into the cave.

'Max' to guide 'Eleven' and 'Kali'

One of the much more surprising moments of the trailer is when 'Max' walks between 'Kali' and 'Eleven'. Our very own cammazot returnee will be guiding the sisters through 'Vecna's' memories in a sneak attack on the villain. So, as 'Eleven', 'Kali', and 'Max' are bringing the fight to 'Vecna' in his mind, the others are fighting off the horrors of the Abyss as the worlds crash together.

It's not the Mind Flayer

There have been theories going around the internet about the Mind Flayer bursting through the sky into the Upside Down in the latest trailer. However, it's NOT the Mind Flayer. It's one of the floating rocks from the in-between that 'Holly' falls through in The Bridge. That appears to be the gap between the worlds, so it makes sense that as 'Vecna' draws the Abyss closer through the wormhole, the other in-between area comes through first.
