Sreenivasan Once Criticised His Younger Son, Dhyan Sreenivasan, For Money Spent On His Upbringing

Renowned Malayalam screenwriter and actor, Sreenivasan passed away on December 20, 2025. The legendary artist had been undergoing treatment at his Udayamperoor residence in Kerala for a prolonged illness. When Sreenivasan’s health deteriorated, he was hospitalised in Thrippunithura. His untimely death at the age of 69 has left his family and the Mollywood industry mourning. He is survived by his wife, Vimala and his two sons, Vineeth Sreenivasan and Dhyan Sreenivasan.

Both Vineeth and Dhyan were present along with their mom, Vimala, at their residence in Kandanad to receive Sreenivasan's mortal remains. While the brother-duo had an emotional breakdown due to their father’s sudden death, it was Sreenivasan’s younger son, Dhyan, who was reportedly inconsolable after seeing his lifeless body. Sreenivasan’s bond with his two sons was a bit different from each other. While Vineeth was praised for being responsible and disciplined, Sreenivasan had a fair share of ups and downs with his younger son, Dhyan Sreenivasan. During a 2024 media interaction in the MBIFL session, Dhyan recounted an important moment when he fought with his father, Sreenivasan, who was in an intoxicated state. Following the incident, he had also decided to leave his house. Dhyan shared that his dad criticised him for not being successful enough and also told him to return the money he had spent on his upbringing. According to a Mathrubhumi report, Dhyan was quoted as saying:

"That day, upon reaching home, my dad was drunk. He attributed all my failures to me and harped on how much money he had spent on me. He told me, 'Put the money I had spent on you, and then you talk.'"

When Dhyan Sreenivasan revealed that his father, Sreenivasan, lacked tolerance

During the same media interaction, Dhyan talked about the arrogance within many writers. He also included his dad, Sreenivasan, in it. Dhyan revealed that he, too, had arrogance and lacked tolerance. He called Sreenivasan a 'typical Malayali dad'. According to a Mathrubhumi report, Dhyan was quoted as saying:

"Yes, he has it. My father lacks tolerance. Why can't he sit down with me and discuss things calmly? My father, Sreenivasan, has become a typical Malayali Dad."

Sreenivasan passes away at the age of 69

On December 20, 2025, Sreenivasan left for the heavenly abode around 8:30 in the morning. Following his tragic passing, the renowned Malayalam actor was brought to his house in Kerala's Kandanad in Ernakulam. According to a report by Mathrubhumi, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., the legendary icon’s body was kept at the Ernakulam Town Hall for public viewing. Sreenivasan’s funeral has been scheduled on December 21, 2025, at 10 a.m., at his residence in Kandanand.

Before Sreenivasan’s body was brought to his home, his elder son, Vineeth Sreenivasan, had reached the Thrippunithura General Hospital, where the actor was admitted. Sreenivasan was a popular actor in the Malayalam industry. Along with his family, actors from the industry and politicians came together to pay their respects to the late actor. Veteran actor, Mammootty, who shared a strong bond with Sreenivasan, was among the first to arrive at the late actor’s residence along with his wife, Sulfath Kutty, to pay their last respects to him.

Sreenivasan was undergoing treatment for age-related cardiac ailments. However, the Malayalam actor’s health worsened on the way when he was taken for a scheduled dialysis. He was rushed to the hospital in Thrippunithura Hospital. There, he was declared dead by the doctors.
