Later, a man's body was recovered from a gorge on June 2, 2025, who was identified as Raja, but his wife was nowhere to be found. Sonam tried to make it look like she was abducted and had no memory of the past incident.
During the investigations, it was revealed that she killed Raja with the help of supari killers. Currently, Sonam is out on bail as the top court refused to put a stay on the order of the High Court, which granted bail to Sonam. A bench of Justices MM Sundresh and Sheel Nagu stated that she had already been released from jail and was staying in Shillong in compliance with the bail conditions imposed by the trial court.
Raja's brother expressed concern about Sonam's bail
After the Supreme Court declined to put a stay on Sonam's bail, which was granted by the Meghalaya High Court, the deceased's brother expressed concern. He asserted that Sonam could tamper with evidence, influence witnesses or might go missing. The brother said:
"If Sonam remains out on bail, she could destroy evidence, influence witnesses, or flee. We believe the Supreme Court will ensure justice for us."
Appearing on behalf of the Meghalaya government, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta talked about the case and called it shocking. He urged the top court to stay the high court's order. He added that Sonam got bail on the technical ground that the full grounds of arrest were not supplied to her.
He also added that Sonam planned the murder with three accomplices and killed Raja during their honeymoon trip. Later, she disposed of his body in a gorge. He also revealed that Sonam later absconded and got arrested in Uttar Pradesh.

Raja Raghuvanshi's autopsy report revealed that he was hit on the head with a sharp cutting object. He was hit in the back and the front of the head while he was on a honeymoon trip with his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi. For the unversed, Raja was an Indore-based businessman who passed away after the brutal attack.
According to reports, Sonam changed her plea in her first statement after being detained. She claimed that she had no role in the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. Sonam revealed that she was abducted, and later, she was abandoned in Ghazipur, where she was later detained at a dhaba by the police authorities.
