Yesterday i.e. November 07, 2018, the entire world celebrated the festival of lights, Diwali. And the day after Diwali, we are always excited to get our hands on our favourite Bollywood celebrities’ Diwali bash pics and videos. While Diwali is over in India, as you are reading this, the western hemisphere of the world has just started celebrating it due to the longitudinal lag. Yes, we are talking about Sonali Bendre. Almost 12 hours behind the India time, Sonali Bendre, with her husband, Goldi Behl and their son, Ranveer Behl is celebrating Diwali now. Sonali took to her official Instagram handle, and sharing the following pictures from her Diwali puja, wrote, “Diwali in New York happens much later than in Mumbai. Hence the late wish! It was quite an unconventional one. We didn't have Indian clothes, we had a small puja. But it was all heart. Happy Diwali everyone! May this year bring you good health, wealth and prosperity. Hope you celebrated this festival with your family and friends, and hope you cherish every moment of happiness with them!”
As you must be aware, Sonali is currently in New York undergoing her cancer treatment. Recently, she shared a snap from Priyanka Chopra’s bridal shower along with Neetu Kapoor (who is also in New York these days owing to Rishi Kapoor’s treatments). Sonali shared the following pic and adorably captioned it, “It's always lovely to be part of someone's special moment and more so when it's a dear friend. What a fabulous evening @priyankachopra!!! Your bridal shower was filled with so much love and laughter. I wish all that and more for you as you take this next big step. Big hug and much love. P.S. it felt so great and also somewhat strange to wear a bright colour again! #RedIsTheColourOfRebirth”.
It was in July 2018 when Sonali shared the heart-wrenching news of her cancer by writing on social media, “Sometimes when you least expect it, life throws you a curveball. I have recently been diagnosed with high-grade cancer that has metastasized, which we frankly did not see coming. A niggling pain led to some tests, which led to this unexpected diagnosis. My family and close friends have rallied around me, providing the best support system that anyone can ask for. I am very blessed and thankful for each of them”.
Her post could further be read as, “There is no better way to tackle this than to take swift and immediate action. And so, as advised by my doctors, I am currently undergoing a course of treatment in New York. We remain optimistic and I am determined to fight every step of the way. What has helped has been the immense outpouring of love and support I've received over the past few days, for which I am very grateful. I'm taking this battle head-on, knowing I have the strength of my family and friends behind me”. Coming back to Sonali and Goldie, the couple has been married since November 12, 2002. Talking about their love and respect for each other, and their amazing marital life, Sonali once said, “What we promised each other is that we appreciate each other's good things and can laugh at each other's bad things. He thrives on chaos and I need to be organised and lots of incidents come from this situation. He has a lot of patience and is mature for his age. What he likes about me is that he knows he will get an honest reply from me as I don't lie well. He is the romantic and I am the logical person. More than anything else you have to be friends and he is my best friend. I would love to say that I love my son Ranveer most but even today, I love Goldie the most in the world. I couldn't ask for more”.
Recently, Sonali took to Instagram and shared an emotional post in which she expressed her thoughts on her son, Ranveer and how he reacted on learning of her mom’s cancer. Sonali wrote, “As much as we wanted to protect him, we knew it was important to tell him the full facts. We’ve always been open and honest with him and this time it wasn’t going to be different. He took the news so maturely… and instantly became a source of strength and positivity for me. In some situations now, he even reverses roles and takes on being the parent, reminding me of things I need to do! I believe that it’s imperative to keep kids involved in a situation like this. They are a lot more resilient than we give them credit for. It’s important to spend time with them and include them, rather than make them wait on the side-lines, not being told yet instinctively knowing everything. In our effort to protect them from the pain and realities of life, we might end up doing the opposite. I’m spending time with Ranveer right now, while he’s on summer vacation. His madness and shenanigans help me #SwitchOnTheSunshine. And today, we derive strength from each other #OneDayAtATime”.
