Beyond his role as a pattimandram moderator, he had a relationship with Tamil literature, education, and films spanning several decades. Talking about his personal life, reports have revealed that Solomon Pappaiah was married to S. Jeyabai. While little is known about her, New Indian Express reported that she passed away in January 2025.
Solomon Pappaiah and S. Jeyabai had two children during their marriage, a son and a daughter. According to a New Indian Express article, his daughter, Vimala Solomon, is a professor of Japanese language studies. However, not much is known about their son.

According to reports, he was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Madurai, where he was admitted for about a week after his health deteriorated. Talking about Solomon's early life, he studied at The American College in Madurai and completed his postgraduate studies in Tamil at Thiagarajar College.
Thereafter, he served as a professor at The American College and became the head of its Tamil department. Over the years, Solomon Pappaiah made immense contributions to the development of pattimandram and made Tamil debates popular even among television audiences. Additionally, he wrote and directed several books on Tamil literature.
However, his genius was not limited to books and academics; Solomon Pappaiah also starred in Tamil films. Some of the films in which he starred include Pudhu Varusham (1992), Boys (2003), Yes Madam (2003) and Sivaji: The Boss (2007). In his peak years, Solomon received several awards, including the Kalaimamani Award in 2000 in recognition of his contribution to Tamil culture. In 2010, Annamalai University conferred the honorific 'Muthamizh Perarignar' on him.
In 2021, the Indian government honoured him with the Padma Shri in the domain of Literature & Education-Journalism.
