Recently, in an interview with the Mashable India, Shilpa Shetty Kundra recalled how her father was not allowing her to act in films initially, until the director, Dilip Naik had entered into the situation and had convinced him. Shilpa mentioned that just after her class 10th exam, she had joined a beauty course, and after doing a photo shoot, she had got a call for a screen test for an ad. And when she had gone for the same with her mother, Sunanda Shetty, there the director, Dilip Naik had found a spark in her eyes. Shilpa added that listening to Dilip's compliment, her mother had instantly mentioned that her daughter would not be acting since she was only seventeen years old then. Shilpa said:

“When I was in my eleventh standard, I got a call to give a screen test for an ad. I was sitting there and in front of me was Dilip Naik Sir who was an assistant to Yash Chopra. He had directed a film called Nakhuda. I think he was searching for a new girl. He was going through pictures of models in photo albums when he came across my picture. He glanced at me a few times. My mother had also accompanied me. He asked me if I wanted to act. He told me ‘Tumhari aankhon mein koi baat hai. My mother who was sitting next to me, said, ‘No, no, my daughter will not act because I was around 17 at that time’.”

Afterwards, Shilpa added that she had told about the same to his father, and he had instantly disagreed. After telling this to Dilip, the director had then visited their house and had convinced her dad overnight. For the unversed, Shilpa was about to make her acting debut with this film, co-starring actors Ronit Roy and Rohit Roy. However, since it had got shelved, she had got a call from Ratan Jain and Abbas, to cast opposite Shah Rukh Khan in her debut film, Baazigar. Talking about the same, Shilpa added:

“When I told him (Dilip Naik) that my father won’t allow me to act, he visited our house at night and convinced my dad overnight that I was a perfect fit for his film, and I could also continue my studies side by side. Well, that film never got made.”
