Bollywood actors, Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani's biographical drama, Shershaah, based on the incredible sacrifice and inspirational life story of Captain Vikram Batra, is the talk of the town at the moment. On September 31, 2021, the streaming platform, Amazon Prime Video, had announced that Shershaah has become their most popular Hindi film across the globe.
The film has also become one of the highest-rated Indian films of all time on IMDB, with an outstanding user rating of 8.9. Now, in an interview, film's writer, Sandeep Srivastava, confirmed that the iconic scene at the bus stop, where Vikram Batra had cut his thumb to fill Dimple Cheema's maang with his blood, had happened in reality and isn't a cinematic imagination.

In an interview with the Indian Express, Shershaah's writer, Sandeep Srivastava, addressed the doubts in some people's minds regarding the authenticity of the film's iconic scene in which Vikram Batra had cut his thumb and filled his ladylove, Dimple Cheema's maang, with his blood. On this, the writer admitted that he had also thought that it was all 'cooked up' when he had heard about it for the very first time. But after Dimple had confirmed the same, the writer was eager to present it in the film. He said, "The act itself is over-the-top as if from the 70s or 80s, but Dimple's reaction of "kinna filmy banda mila hai mainu (My man is so filmy)" balances it. Dimple is such a beautiful aspect to this story."
The writer also emphasised that he and his entire team had tried their best not to sacrifice the purity and originality of Captain Vikram Batra and Dimple Cheema's fairytale love story. However, the writer accepted that they've made some cinematic imagination in different parts of the film, but that too without disturbing the authenticity of Dimple and Vikram's love story. He explained, "I met Dimple 2-3 times. We realised there are certain milestones in their love story. So the journey from one milestone to the other is where we've used bit of imagination and cinematic liberty."

Earlier in an interview with News18, Sandeep Srivastava had shared some rare details about Dimple Cheema and Captain Vikram Batra's relationship. The writer had stated that Dimple and Vikram were together for just 40 days. However, the two had known each other for almost four years. He had revealed, "When I was doing my research, and I interacted with Dimple, she said that Captain Batra and she knew each other for four years but the time they spent together was just about 40 days." Sandeep had also added that he and his team had tried their best to do justice with Dimple's feelings for her eternal love, Vikram.

Captain Vikram Batra had laid down his life for the nation during the Kargil war in 1999, for which he will never be forgotten.
