Shefali Shah and her ex-husband, Harsh Chhaya, in 1996 were seen together in the famous show called Hasratein. It was in 1994 when the ex-pair decided to get married. However, after a few years, they opted for separation. For both Shefali and her ex-husband, Harsh, their divorce phase had created a lot of turbulence in their lives. However, did the actress face emotional abu** when she was married to Harsh?

Shefali Shah sat down for an interview with Zoom and revealed how difficult it was for her to stay in the marriage. It was not easy for her to carve her own path to independence. Shefali spoke about how emotional abu** in itself is damaging, and no one can ever normalise or nullify the same. She revealed that a lot of people go through emotional abu**. Shefali subtly hinted at going through the same during her marriage and shared:

“When you tell someone that emotional abu** is just as bad, they respond with, ‘So what, you had a fight? Someone said something hurtful? You were demeaned in a relationship?’ They say that’s common in every relationship. So I had to share it. A lot of us go through it."

Addressing the topic of emotional abu**, Shefali also revealed the mindset of society related to the same. She emphasised how a partner not hitting the spouse was not considered abu. Shefali revealed how the mentality of your partner not raising his hand at you but screaming, saying things such as 'you are so foolish' was not considered as abu**. Shefali revealed that one does not realise the kind of damage these things do. It breaks the person, and she could resonate with the same.

Shefali Shah, in the interview, revealed that nobody told her that she was enough and did not need a husband, a friend, a brother, or a sister to be complete. The actress revealed that if one has great relationships, fantastic. But if one does not have the same, one's value cannot be determined by it. The Delhi Crime actress revealed how a close friend made her realise the importance of staying alone rather than finding the wrong partner. Shefali shared:

"I think I started feeling like this after my first marriage. I remember a very, very dear friend of mine asked me, ‘What if you never, ever find anyone in your life? Would you rather take that chance, or would you still continue to be in the marriage?’ And I said, ‘No, I will take that chance."

Shefali Shah revealed that when one reaches a breaking point, a sense of realisation comes. She revealed that people reach the threshold of tolerance before deciding to come out of a toxic relationship. Earlier, in an interview with Pinkvilla, Shefali revealed facing se**sm from her in-laws. In her words:

"I’m picked on a lot by my family. On a certain level, maybe it comes from your in-laws because they belong to a different generation. I remember when Vipul (her husband) goes for a shoot, nobody questions it. But when I’m shooting continuously, it’s like, ‘Again you have to shoot?’ And I’m like, ‘Are you serious? Did I just get asked that question?’ Or it’s, ‘You’re shooting for so many hours?’ That’s how it works. How come that question is never asked of your son?”
