The veteran Bengali beauty, Sharmila Tagore had created a name for herself in Hindi and Bengali cinema. Born in the prominent Tagore family, Sharmila had made her acting debut at the age of 14. With stellar performances in movies like Waqt, Anupama, An Evening in Paris, Aradhana, Amar Prem, Chupke Chupke and many more, Sharmila has always mesmerised us with her effortless acting and charming personality.
Sharmila Tagore shares a great bond with her bahu, Kareena Kapoor Khan and we have often seen her praising Kareena on various public platforms. On the other hand, Kareena has always looked up to her talented mother-in-law and considers her an inspiration. Kareena Kapoor is so fond of Sharmila Tagore that she had ditched all the renowned designers in the industry for her wedding and had worn her mother-in-law’s wedding dress.
Sharmila Tagore is making a comeback in Indian cinema after 11 long years with the film, Gulmohar. In an interview with ETimes, the veteran actress talked about the experience of facing the camera after 11 years and the prospect of working with her bahu, Kareena Kapoor Khan. When asked why she chose Gulmohar as her comeback project, Sharmila retorted:
"Because it’s a very interesting role, different from the usual. It’s not just another grandmother character. I play myself; I play my age neither older nor younger. The script spoke to me, I looked forward to working with Manoj Bajpayee. I’m a big admirer of his."
Going further in the interview, Sharmila talked about the chances of seeing her onscreen with her daughter-in-law, Kareena Kapoor Khan. Calling them a family of working actors, Sharmila shared:
"You know the audience is very wild. They want to see a good film at the end of the day. If the collaboration happens organically then that’s a good thing, but nobody can force these things. Kareena is working on a lovely film. I’m very happy about that because this is the first shoot happening after the lockdown and Saif has just finished another film. So, we are all a family of working actors, and we all enjoy our work. I did this and I enjoyed it. Now let’s see how it’ll be and we will take it from there."
It was in 2012 when the entire nation was excited about the union of Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan. But a year ago, in 2011, Saif’s father, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi had taken his last breath due to respiratory failure. It was a tough time for the Pataudi clan, especially Sharmila Tagore, and in her own words, her then-to-be daughter-in-law, Kareena had stood by the family. It was a day after Kareena’s birthday in 2011 when Saif’s father had passed away, and for Sharmila, Kareena was there with her “just like my children and my family”.
Sharmila Tagore was last seen in the film, Break Ke Baad in 2010!
