Shark Tank is one of the most unique reality shows in the Indian television industry. The show is inspired by an American business reality series of the same name and concept. Here, the sharks are entrepreneurs who invest in several small companies if they get impressed by their pitch. The show is currently in its third season, and the current sharks are Vineeta Singh, Aman Gupta, Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, Deepinder Goyal and more.
Adil Qadri, a luxury perfume entrepreneur from Gujarat, went to the show aiming to crack a deal with the sharks for an investment of Rs 1 crore with 0.5% equity. Adil is an asthma patient, so he could attend regular school only till the sixth grade, but that did not alter his determination to achieve something big in life. His perfume pitch impressed the sharks, and he finally closed the deal with Sugar cosmetics CEO, Vineeta Singh.

During the pitch, Adil revealed that his brand is in debt of Rs 6 crores, and it is due to his experimental strategising. Hearing this, most of the sharks backed out of the deal, but Vineeta not only decided to invest in his brand but also provided him with solutions to minimise the debt and ultimately entirely pay it off. As the deal was finalised, Vineeta asked Adil if she could hug him, which the latter politely declined.
The clip of Adil Qadri’s refusing to hug Vineeta Singh went viral in no time, and people tagged him as a ‘sigma male’. The entrepreneur recently appeared in Ayushman Pandit’s podcast and revealed why he refused the hug. Explaining the situation, Adil added that in Indian and Muslim culture, men do not hug other women outside of their family, which is why he did not hug Vineeta, although he is extremely thankful to her for the investment. In Adil’s words:
“Indian culture hai, Muslim culture hai, humara ek culture hai jaha pe hum ladies se jadda karib nahi hote. Duri rakhte hai agar who humare wife nahi hai ya humari sister nahi hai ya humari mother nehi hai. Toh humare mei prohibited hai, toh hum dur rehte hai.”
