Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleActor and comedian Shane Gillis has found himself in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. For those unaware, he recently appeared on Saturday Night Live on October 10, 2026, alongside Spanish singer Rosalia. His opening monologue on the sketch comedy show received a lot of backlash from viewers as it was filled with offensive and sexist jokes. He was highly criticized for his description of women who wear tight clothes as “whores.”
Shane Gillis’ SNL monologue left Emmy-winning actor and writer Dan Levy calling him a misogynist. As the comedian continues to face flak, his ex-girlfriend, Grace Brassel’s post, taking aim at his behavior, has surfaced.
Shane Gillis' ex-girlfriend, Grace Brassel, posted a message for women before his monologue
Just days before Shane Gillis sparked backlash with his monologue on Saturday Night Live, his ex-girlfriend, Grace Brassel, took to Instagram to share a message for women. Seemingly taking aim at Shane with the post, she wrote about how last year, in 2025, she was in a relationship that fully stripped her of her identity.
Grace claimed that she was terrified to talk about what she went through in her relationship with Shane, without taking his name. She said she was afraid because she had faced relentless bullying from his fanbase. Grace wrote:
“Last year, I was in a relationship that fully stripped me of who I am. I’ve been so terrified to even talk about what I went through, especially after relentless bullying from his fanbase (for no reason).”

Addressing all women, Grace said that she wanted to let them know that things will always get better. She said that if she could have survived her past relationship, they could also do it. In her words:
“I want to share this to let women know IT GETS BETTER!! And you can do it! I had it on level hard mode, and I survived! And I’ve never been happier.”
Grace's post depicts her crying several times in different sequences before finding her post-breakup happiness. On top of the video, she shared the message, “You are so much more than someone's girlfriend.” In the comment section of her post, Grace explained that she was already aware Shane Gillis’ fans would purposefully misunderstand her, but she is used to it.
According to her, the reason she had so many clips of herself crying was that she used them as a video diary. She never thought that she would post it online, but she wanted to let people know that there's more to life, “regardless of whether my ex is a famous comedian or not.” Grace ended the note by saying that there's still hope.
What did Shane Gillis say on SNL?
Shane Gillis began his monologue on Saturday Night Live by talking about his weight and his discomfort when working out in public. He joked, “Going to the public gym as a fat guy, especially in New York, is a nightmare, dude,” before joking about how he encountered muscular gay men who did not seem impressed by his physique.
The tone completely shifted when Shane began discussing women's workout clothes. He joked, “I haven't been to the gym in so long, I didn't realize women just dressed like whores now.” As his comment prompted groaning and cheering from the audience, the comedian said that he was sorry, but there was no other way to describe it.

He described how they wear tight workout shorts with bright colors and fit. He then complained about how a lot of women film themselves in the gym, saying that he might have appeared in the background of at least 10 TikTok videos. Viewers were not a fan of Shane’s jokes, leading to an outpouring of backlash.
