Shakti Kapoor is one of the most loved and talented actors in Bollywood. Hailed for his villainous and comic roles in Hindi films, Shakti rules millions and millions of hearts for his impeccable acting chops. The actor started his acting journey with his debut movie, Khel Khilari Ka. However, his villainous role in the films, Sanjay Dutt's Rocky and Feroz Khan's Qurbaani, brought him immense success. Shakti Kapoor recently opened up about joining the Film and Television Institute of India. He also shared an anecdote from his early days when he was ragged by his senior and one of the most popular actors, Mithun Chakraborty.
In a recent interview with DD Urdu, Shakti Kapoor talked about the time when he was about to start his course at FTI. Shakti walked down the memory lane and shared that, at first, he never thought of acting until he got a letter from FTI for a written examination. Later he came to know his friend had filled up the form. However, recalling the time when he left Delhi to reach Mumbai to join FTI, Shakti revealed that he met two friends, Ravi Varman and Anil Varman, who, too, were to join the same institute. The actor had three days before joining the institute, so he stayed at Ravi's house and accompanied him at the latter's sister's wedding. Ravi's sister was getting married to Vinod Khanna's family, which made Shakti already feel like a Bollywood celebrity. Moreover, he also met Vinod Khanna’s brother, Pramod Khanna, and filmmaker, Rakesh Roshan. The two of them decided to drop Shakti at FTI.

Shakti recalled having a beer in his hand when he reached the hostel. He saw a guy standing at the gate, wearing a dhoti with many holes in it. Shakti mentioned that he asked that guy if he wanted some beer. The guy at the gate refused the offer and replied that it was not allowed in the hostel anyways. He also introduced himself as Mithun Chakraborty. Shakti mentioned:
"By the time we reached Pune, I had a beer in my hand and felt like a star. We reached the hostel, Rakesh Roshan was there to see me off. I saw that there was a guy standing at the gate, he was wearing a dhoti and had a rippling muscular body. His dhoti had so many holes you could not even count. He was dusky. He saw Rakesh Roshan and touched his feet. I had a beer in my hand and I asked him, ‘You wanna have some beer?’ He refused and said it is anyway not allowed in the institute and then introduced himself – he was Mithun Chakraborty... Cut to, they (Rakesh and other) left and a hand held me by my leg. He dragged me to a room, threw me on the floor and questioned ‘You asked a senior – you wanna have some beer?"
Recalling how Mithun ragged him, Shakti Kapoor shared that when Rakesh Roshan and Pramod Khanna left him, he was dragged by his leg to a hostel room, where he was asked who did he even dare to offer beer to a senior. Shakti also shared how Mithun and other seniors made fun of his hair and even cut it off. The versatile actor also mentioned feeling bad and regretting what he did. The actor revealed:
"These are all my seniors, and there I am sitting on the floor. Mithun then told his friends about me and then they joked about my hair – tere zulf jo hai, raat ka andhera, tu jo sir mudwae savera ho jae. Unhone kainchi nikali aur savera kar diya. I felt bad, and I regretted doing what I did. I realised I was wrong."

In the same interview, Shakti Kapoor also mentioned how Mithun Chakraborty rescued him. He shared that other seniors asked him to swim in cold water for 20 minutes and he simply urged them to let him return to Delhi. However, it was Mithun who swooped in and took him aside and gave him a lesson about how to behave with seniors. Shakti Kapoor also stated Mithun saved him by locking him in a room so that everyone thought he was not there, or else he thought he would have been ‘paraded till morning’.
