The Colombian singer, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, aka Shakira, is among the most renowned celebrities in the world. She is very popular among the masses for her upbeat music and signature belly dance. The ‘Queen of Latin Music’ recently received the ‘2023 MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award’ for her outstanding contribution to music. The popular singer caught everyone’s attention when she got separated from the former Spanish footballer, Gerard Pique, over reports of infidelity on Pique's part.
In an exclusive Billboard interview, the 46-year-old singer opened up about her emotional struggles since her separation from Gerard. For the unversed, Shakira and Gerard were together for over a decade before calling it quits in 2022. The duo has two sons, Milan (10) and Sasha (8).

The Hips Don’t Lie singer, Shakira candidly confessed that her family meant everything to her. She believed in ‘forever’ before Gerard shattered her heart into pieces with alleged cheating. She said:
“My priority was my home, my family. I believed in ’till death do us part.’ I believed that dream, and I had that dream for myself, for my children.”
In the same interview, Shakira, the single mom of two, further mentioned that her parents are her role models when it comes to relationships. She says that she wanted a similar relationship for herself, just like her parents had, but alas, it did not happen. She said:
"My parents have been together, I don’t know, 50 years, and they love each other like the first day, with a love that’s unique and unrepeatable. So I know it’s possible. It’s what I wanted for myself and my children, but it didn’t happen,"

The Beautiful Liar singer reflected on her past relationship with Pique. She admitted that while living with the former footballer in Spain, she had to prioritise her personal life over her music career. She further added:
“The thing is, I was dedicated to him. To the family, to him. It was very difficult for me to attend to my professional career while in Barcelona. I couldn’t leave my children and just go somewhere to make music outside my house. It was hard to maintain the rhythm.”
After moving to Miami, Shakira found a renewed focus on her music and a break from the constant media attention her family faced in Barcelona. She explained the contrast between their lives in Spain with the ever-present paparazzi and their current experiences in the U.S., where they have enjoyed a refreshing sense of normalcy and a break from the spotlight. Shakira is grateful for this new chapter in her life. She mentioned:
“Here, they’re normal children who enjoy normalcy, which is what school should be: a safe haven where they can be themselves,” Shakira expressed, underscoring the importance of a balanced and grounded environment for her children.
Last year, Shakira and Pique announced their separation through an official statement. According to Page Six, the singer was reportedly heartbroken after discovering her ex-partner's infidelity with his current girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. It is said that Shakira found out about the affair when she noticed her favourite jam was vanishing from their residence.
Shakira, who is now single, has been rumoured to be dating other famous athletes. In July, she was seen having a casual dinner date with Miami Heat player, Jimmy Butler in London. The famous singer was also linked to Formula 1 driver, Lewis Hamilton after they were seen spending time together in Miami and Barcelona. Shakira even fuelled dating rumours with the Canadian rapper, Drake, after they were spotted coming out of a party in the wee hours.
