Shah Rukh and Gauri sailed through all the ups and downs, and finally, on October 25, 1991, the duo tied the knot. Since they belonged to different religions, her family was very apprehensive about their marriage. But Shah Rukh is a prankster and never fails to show his funny side. Something similar happened on the day of his marriage to Gauri.
In an old talk show with actress Farida Jalal, Shah Rukh narrated a funny story from his and Gauri’s wedding. He recalled that during their wedding, her whole family was sitting and whispering, “He’s a Muslim boy. Will he change the girl’s name? Will she (Gauri) become a Muslim?”
Going further in the interaction, Shah Rukh revealed that he asked his wife, Gauri, to wear a burqa and change her name to Ayesha. Sharing the same, he continued:
“They were all talking in Punjabi. So, I looked at the time and said, “OK, Gauri, put on your ‘burqa’ and let’s read the namaaz now." The whole family stared at us, wondering if I had already changed her religion. So I told them, “From now on she will wear a burqa all the time, she won’t ever leave the house, and her name will be changed to Ayesha, and she will be like this.”

In a throwback interview with Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla on their show, First Ladies, Gauri Khan spoke about the hurdles they faced during their wedding. Revealing how she changed Shah Rukh’s name to Abhinav to make her parents believe that he is a Hindu boy, Gauri shared, “We changed his name to Abhinav so they feel he is a Hindu boy, but that was really silly and very childish.”
Shah Rukh Khan dotes on Gauri and never misses a chance to shower her with love. We all know how films play an important role in Shah Rukh’s life. King Khan has also gone on record in many media interactions and said that if he is ever asked to choose between his career and Gauri, he'll leave films for her.
