Shabana Azmi is one of the most stunning actresses of her time. Coming to her personal life, she has been married for more than 40 years to legendary writer and lyricist, Javed Akhtar. The madly-in-love couple is the epitome of love, and their jodi is indeed a match made in heaven. However, they also had differences, just like every other married couple. Now, in a recent conversation, Shabana opened up about the time when she and Javed wanted to kill each other. She also revealed what saved them from doing so.
In an interview with Filmfare, Shabana Azmi was asked if her stance on the idea of love has changed over the years. To this, the veteran actress mentioned that girls in the past liked romantic stories. However, she was never like that. Instead, she mentioned that her parents' marriage was her inspiration, which started with romance and evolved into a friendship. Thus, she also finds friendship and respects the key aspects of a relationship. Moreover, she added about giving space to partners and said:
“So what I have valued greatly is friendship. And to have love without respect is possibly not even possible. For me, respect is an important part of love. Also, I believe in giving your partner space. I think it is important for people to have their own space outside of that love; otherwise, we can tend to suffocate it."

Further, in the same conversation, Shabana opened up about how she used to have huge fights with her husband, Javed Akhtar, so much that they sometimes wanted to kill each other. However, it was their friendship with each other which was so strong that their marriage also couldn't ruin it. She also revealed being similar as individuals that they ultimately understand each other’s worldview better than anybody else. Thus, mentioning that friendship is the biggest thing in her relationship with Javed, she added:
"But if you have a happy relationship, as I have with Javed (Akhtar), then it is one of the most nurturing relationships that can exist. Javed and I have huge fights and want to kill each other but at the end of the day, respecting the other person is important. Javed is fond of saying that Shabana is my best friend. And this friendship is so strong that even marriage could not ruin it.”
Before tying the knot with Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar was married to Honey Irani and had two kids, Farhan Akhtar and Zoya Akhtar. However, in 1978, Javed and Honey got separated, and on December 9, 1984, he exchanged vows with Shabana. But Shabana shares a good bond with Honey, and her stepkids, glimpses of the same are also often found on social media or during their public appearances. Talking about Javed's love at first sight with Shabana, once he had talked about the same in a conversation with Simi Garewal on her chat show, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal, in 2000. During the conversation, Javed revealed the first moment when he had felt love for his wife, Shabana and called it 'fascinating'.

Following this, Javed Akhtar mentioned that Shabana's aura attracted him a lot, and thus, there wasn't any precise moment when he fell for her. Then, Shabana, who was also present during the same conversation, revealed that he used to make her laugh a lot after she got to know Javed. Moreover, she used to enjoy his company and found him stimulating. Shabana also shared that, according to her, Javed was one of the most intelligent men she had met and coming from quite a similar background led them to the road of love.
On the work front, Shabana Azmi will be next seen in the film, Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani, which will hit the theatres on July 28, 2023.
