Shabana Azmi recalls she was humiliated on the sets of the film, Parvarish

In a recent interview with Adi Pocha during a podcast, Shabana Azmi opened up about a humiliation she faced while shooting the film, Parvarish along with Neetu Kapoor. She also recalled how the actress felt extremely miserable because she couldn't perform a dance sequence. It all happened when Shabana went to do a full-fledged dance without much rehearsals, the choreographer, Kamal humiliated her in front of junior artists, which left her crying. Shabana said:

“I cannot dance to save my life. I have two left feet. I had asked Kamal Master, he was choreographer. I said ‘Please give me rehearsals.’ He said rehearsal is not needed. You just have to clap. It was so frightening because I was with Neetu Singh. Even before I could figure out where I have to put my right foot, and left foot, Neetu would have done two rehearsals and sat over there.”

In the same conversation, Shabana continued that after being humiliated by the choreographer, she just ghosted the place barefoot. At the time, she was nearly wearing ghastly clothes while running towards her house in Juhu. Shabana revealed:

“I was really very nervous. I told Kamal Ji it was very complicated and can we change it a little bit. There were a lot of junior artists on the sets. He said ‘Okay, lights off. Now Shabana Ji is now going to teach Kamal dance master what steps to do'. It was so humiliating and bad that I just ran off the set. I was in these ghastly clothes. I went (out) to find my car was not there. In those clothes I started walking barefoot to my house in Juhu, crying away and saying ‘I am not going to work in any film anymore. I just don't want this humiliation.”

Further, Shabana mentioned that it was the Parvarish director, Manmohan Desai and the film producer, who calmed her down. Not only this, the following day after the incident, Shabana revealed how Neetu Singh asked her about the incident, which made the former almost on the verge of quitting acting. Then, Shabhana revealed how the Indian playback singer, Sulakshana Pandit, made her realise that she being the leading lady is much more needed in the film than the choreographer. And this is how Sulakshana’s words lifted Shabana, and the actress is grateful to her for her entire life.

On the work front, Shabana Azmi was seen in Karan Johar's recently released film, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, co-starring Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Jaya Bachchan and Dharmendra.
