For those who don't know, Serayah was engaged to rapper Joey Badass, with whom she welcomed a son in 2025. Serayah announced their split on Instagram, leaving many fans heartbroken. In her statement, she accused Joey of cheating on her. Now, as the news grabs headlines, Joey’s previous arrest for assault has come into focus.
Joey Badass was arrested over alleged security guard assault
Ever since Serayah and Joey Badass' split became public, fans have been digging deeper into the life of the rapper. A report about Joey surfaced when the rapper was charged with assault after an incident at The Falls festival near Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia.
Joey was reportedly stopped by a security guard while he was trying to get to the festival’s stage to perform his set. When the security guard asked to check his identification, Joey allegedly punched him in the face. It is believed that the police got involved after the incident took place and waited for the rapper to finish his show before promptly arresting him. While speaking with The Guardian, a police spokesperson gave more insight into what had happened. They said:
“A 20-year-old man was allegedly punched in the face by a man while working as a security guard at the festival. The man was treated for a broken nose and other facial injuries.”
Joey Badass, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm during his appearance in Lismore Bail Court. However, he was granted bail ahead of another court appearance.
Joey was clearly not happy with how things turned out as he took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to post a rather telling message. He wrote, “The crucification of my image has already begun. Remember, don't believe everything you see or hear. They build you up to tear you down.”
This was shortly followed by a statement which claimed that the whole incident happened as a result of a “misunderstanding.” It also revealed that Joey entered a plea of not guilty to the charge. The statement read:
“There was a misunderstanding with security at the Byron Falls Festival show, which resulted in charges being laid by NSW Police. After fully cooperating with Police, Joey was granted bail and entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.”
Serayah ends her engagement with Joey Badass
It was on August 24, 2026, that Serayah shared a lengthy statement on Instagram. She claimed that she had to make “the difficult decision to end my engagement and relationship with the father of my child.”
The actress began her note by writing that there comes a time in a woman's life when choosing herself becomes the necessary thing to do. While she had loved the rapper deeply and believed in the life that they were building together, it was all futile. Claiming that there was nothing she wanted more than to protect their family, Serayah added:
“Unfortunately, I also had to face a painful truth: there had been repeated infidelity throughout our relationship, including during some of the most vulnerable and meaningful moments of my life.”
Serayah explained that by speaking out about her split from Joey Badass, she was not trying to gain sympathy or face retaliation. She also did not want to tear down anyone publicly. She said that even though her relationship with Joey was over, she would now focus on her son, whom she shares with the rapper. Serayah ended the note with, “This chapter did not end the way I prayed it would. But endings can also be beginnings.”
