Seema Pahwa has been winning hearts with her role in Ayushmann Khurrana's film, Dream Girl 2. The veteran actress is famous for her varied roles in television serials and films. However, she is famous for playing one of the revolutionary characters of 'Badki' in India's first serial, Hum Log. For the first time ever, Seema revealed how her role inspired distressed women to seek guidance and step out of toxic marriages.
In an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Seema Pahwa recalled how the character of 'Badki' in Hum Log helped women step away from toxic marriages during that time. She revealed that the character of 'Badki' was of a simple girl, who was doing social work for the betterment of women. Seema added that people watched the show with so much seriousness that they actually believed that she was doing that social work in real life.

Sharing further, Seema revealed that women started coming to her house, leaving their husbands, and asking her for advice. The actress shared that she looked shocked as she was just 22-year-old. She was quoted as saying:
"People actually started coming to my house with their bags after leaving their husbands. They would ask me, ‘Now, tell us what should we do?’ And I was just 22 years old at the time. I too didn’t know what to do with my life. So, me and my mother both were shocked looking at them."
Seema Pahwa further added that she realised the power of media, and started showing support for the girls who were facing problems at home. She revealed that the women in toxic relationships would come to her, and she did social work for almost three years. She said:
"This was the time I realised that media is so powerful. The show became a support system for the girls who were facing problems at home, they were not able to find a solution. My character showed them the path that they can leave their in-laws or leave their house to demand their rights. So they came to me and I did social work for almost three years and helped them."
During the interview, Seem revealed that she was reluctant to work in Hum Log as she was already working with Shri Ram Centre, where she would be getting Rs. 400 monthly. She was happy with her stable job. However, it was Hum Log's director, P Kumar Vasudev, who convinced her when he told her about the salary she would be getting paid per episode. She said:
"I started ignoring the show’s director P Kumar Vasudev but one day he caught me and told me, ‘Have you gone mad? You are getting such a big opportunity and you are running from this.’ He made me understand that I won’t need to come back to this job after starring in the show because they are making India’s first soap opera. I trusted him only when he told me how much money I would get paid for the show. He told me I would get Rs 500 per day for the show and I thought that was a lot of money and I agreed to do the show."
For the unversed, Hum Log was the first Indian television serial, which premiered on Doordarshan on July 7, 1984.
