For the unversed, the hairstylist and mom of two passed away a few days after revealing that her estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, was a pedophile. Days after the revelation, Jeremiah took the drastic step of killing Sara, and following the same, he committed suicide, leaving the influencer's two kids alone.
To mention, Sara previously filed for and was granted a protective order against her husband, Jeremiah. In one of the recent protective orders, Sara revealed that Jeremiah was kissing a child from a basketball team where he was a coach. Following all the allegations came the shocking incident of Sara's murder. Jeremiah shot Sara to death, and as per a recent report, he had filed for bankruptcy, just two years before committing murder-suicide.

Us Weekly recently reported that Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey filed for bankruptcy back in 2024. In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy document, Jeremiah revealed having 100 dollars in his checking account and 300 dollars in his savings. Apart from that, he had listed USD 450 worth of pistols, a 200 dollars wedding ring, along with USD 41K in total assets.
In the documents, Jeremiah revealed that he had debts worth USD 260K, while adding that his wife, Sara, was earning USD 3K from her profession as a hairstylist. In the documents, Jeremiah noted that their combined income was around USD 6.4K, while the expenses were around USD 6.2K, along with USD 12K in student loans.
Sara Gilson's ex-husband, begged her to leave Jeremiah
Sara Gilson was married previously. The 43-year-old influencer shared two kids with her ex-husband, who were the center of her world. On her social media, Sara had shared several photos with her kids, and it spoke volumes about the love the trio shared. The mom of two wanted to give her children the best lives that they deserved, and for the same, she was working hard.
However, the tragic incident of her passing has left the little ones alone. Following her death, Sara's ex-husband, Lyle Landers, talked to PEOPLE and shared that he even begged her to leave Jeremiah, who killed her. Lyle said that he never approved of Sara staying with Jeremiah, as according to him, the situation apparently reached a level where she felt that domestic abuse was okay.
Lyle offered his ex-wife help, but she couldn't get away, which he thinks was now caused by a certain sort of control that he had over her. In the same interview, Sara's ex-husband praised her and hailed her for being a great mom. He said:
"Her greatest achievement in life, though, was in our two babies. She was always so worried before we had kids that she wouldn't know what to do, or that she wouldn't be a good mom. Turns out, she was a great mom. She went over the top for our kids, and always made sure that they knew she loved them."
It was Sara who revealed that Jeremiah even compensated her daughter to keep mum about some inappropriate behavior and messages. On the other hand, her son was the one to call 911 as he witnessed her mom being killed by Jeremiah. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched for the kids to help them in the future.
