British actor and comedian Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and multiple counts of sexual assault following a high-profile trial in London. The verdict comes after six different women accused Brand of sexual misconduct over the span of several years.

Amid the new developments, police have confirmed that two additional women have made rape allegations against the actor, with investigations into their complaints ongoing.

Russell Brand found guilty of four out of seven charges in sexual assault case

The 51-year-old actor was originally facing seven charges in connection with six different women. On Thursday, November 5, 2026, Brand was found guilty of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault at Southwark Crown Court. He was acquitted of two other rape charges and one count of attempted indecent assault.

The jury reportedly took three days to reach its verdict after hearing evidence during the three-week trial. Following the verdict, Judge Joel Bennathan refused Brand bail and remanded him in custody. The judge told the comedian he could face a significant prison sentence. Brand is scheduled to be sentenced on Monday, November 9, 2026.

Brand faced seven charges involving six women, relating to alleged incidents that took place between 1999 and 2009. The charges included three counts of rape, three counts of sexual assault and one count of indecent assault, which was later amended to attempted indecent assault.

The rape conviction concerned an alleged incident in 2009. The complainant told the court that she had gone to Brand's home expecting consensual sex, but Brand allegedly removed his condom during intercourse and resorted to non-consensual sodomy.

The victim testified that she repeatedly asked Brand to stop and was left bleeding and in pain. The actor disputed her account, telling the jury that the encounter was consensual and that she had not asked him to stop.

Other serious allegations involved incidents at a hotel, a bar, and a London radio station. One victim accused Brand of raping her in a hotel room in 1999. Another alleged that he attempted to pull her into a men's bathroom cubicle at the MTV Europe offices in 2001.

A third woman described an alleged sexual assault in a bar in 2004, while another accused him of groping her at a London radio station around 2004 or 2005. A sixth woman also described an alleged incident in which Brand demanded a massage and pressed his face into her groin area. Hours after the verdict, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that two additional women had made rape allegations against Brand.

According to a police spokesperson, the comedian had previously been interviewed under caution in connection with both complaints. Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who led the investigation, said he believed more women could come forward following the conviction. He described Brand as a "danger to women" and hoped the verdict would give other potential victims the confidence to speak about their experiences.

It should be noted that the two new complaints are separate from the six women's allegations considered during Russell's trial, and no additional charges have been announced in connection with them.

What did Russell Brand say during the trial?

Brand pleaded not guilty to all seven charges and denied he engaged in nonconsensual sexual activity. He admitted in testimony he had used his fame to pursue sexual conquests from time to time, but said the encounters were always consensual. He reportedly told the jury, "Consent is fundamental, essential, necessary, and in many ways, more important than sex itself."

Russell’s defense team also denied the allegations, saying the complainants had been influenced by media coverage, including a widely publicized Channel 4 documentary in 2023. The allegations came to light after investigations by The Sunday Times, The Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches identified several alleged victims in September 2023. Multiple women accused the actor of rape, sexual assault and emotional abuse, all of which he denied.

The Metropolitan Police subsequently launched an investigation. The process reportedly involved hundreds of interviews and more than 340 witness statements. Because the alleged incidents dated back years, investigators relied on witness accounts and conversations with people the women had contacted afterward, among other available evidence. Brand was interviewed several times before criminal charges were brought in 2025.

Brand remains in custody after being refused bail and is due to return to court for sentencing on November 9, 2026.
