Rohit Shetty Recalls His Stuntman Dad Passed Away When He Was Just 8, Shares How His Family Survived

As Rohit Shetty graced the 'Koffee' couch, he opened up about his difficult beginning in the initial days of his life and how his family coped up with his father's untimely demise.

Rohit Shetty Recalls His Stuntman Dad Passed Away When He Was Just 8, Shares How His Family Survived

Rohit Shetty is counted among the most energetic actors in the film industry. He was born to a renowned stuntman, M. B. Shetty, and his wife, Ratna, a Bollywood junior artist, who acted in many Hindi and Kannada films. Walking in the footsteps of his parents, Rohit too entered the same film business and has already made a mark for himself. Despite hailing from such a background where his parents already belonged to the industry, Rohit's childhood was not a bed of roses. Instead, he had to work extremely hard to reach where he is today. Now, as he appeared on the reality show, Koffee With Karan, he revealed some of the unknown anecdotes from his life.

Rohit Shetty recalls his family's financial struggle after his father's demise when he was only 8 years old

Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty graced the last released episode of the reality show, Koffee With Karan, and talked about an array of things from their life. During one of the segments of the show, Rohit recalled the financial challenges his family had to face when his father, M. B. Shetty passed away when he was just eight years old. Rohit revealed that he was in third standard at that time, and mentioned:

"Ovbiously, things were difficult after that. Till the age of 16, we had a lot of struggles and then I joined him (Ajay Devgn) when I was 17."

Rohit mentions his mother had to resume her work as a junior artist in films

To this, Karan Johar talked about Rohit's mom, Ratna, who was also in the same film business. And listening to the host of the show, Rohit revealed that it was only because of this shared profession that his parents met for the first time. Elaborating further, Rohit mentioned how his mother had stopped working after her marriage with his father since the latter was earning well. But after Rohit's father's untimely demise, the family faced a financial crisis for the longest period of time. Due to this, his mother again had to resume her work as a junior artist in films and worked until he began his career. In Rohit's words:

"Yeah, she was a stunt artist earlier, That's how my dad and mom met. And after that, when dad was doing well, then she had stopped working.. Then after he passed away, there was no...There were like financial crisis at home. Then she started working as a junior artist. Then, she worked as the junior artist for the longest time till I started working. After like, it like a proper blockbuster movie story."

Rohit Shetty on his friendship with Ajay Devgn

For the unversed, Rohit began his career at the age of 17 as an assistant director in Ajay Devgn's first film, Phool Aur Kaante. Then, he worked with Ajay in Suhaag, Haqeeqat, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Hindustan Ki Kasam and Raju Chacha. In addition, Rohit debuted as an independent director in 2003 with the Ajay starrer film, Zameen, and rose to fame in 2006 with the Golmaal series. Again, Rohit returned to the action genre with the film, Singham in 2011, which also starred Ajay in lead. Thus, we can clearly understand the journey Rohit and Ajay have had in the industry. Talking about the 20-year-old friendship with Ajay, Rohit in the same episode, can also be heard acknowledging their longstanding association and understanding. Meanwhile, Rohit and Ajay will be again collaborating in the upcoming film, Singham Again.

The Indian film director, stuntman, writer, and producer who has worked in almost all genres of content, including action, comedy and romance, has also bagged several awards and nominations. He has won Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards India in 2013 in the Best Film category for his film, Chennai Express, Star Box Office India Awards in 2014 for Mr Box Office India Blockbuster category for his film, Singham Returns, Zee Cine Awards in 2013 for the Power Club – Box Office Award category for his film, Bol Bachchan and many others. Apart from this, he also hosts the stunt-based adventure show, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi since 2014.
