Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the American politician, is hogging the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Recently, the new biography, RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise, by investigative journalist, Isabel Vincent, came to the limelight. The book explores the life of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., including his personal struggles, past drug addiction and inner conflicts. The book also delves into the doomed marriage of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and his second wife, Mary Richardson Kennedy, who committed suicide on May 16, 2012.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was seeking something more even after he fell deeply in love with Mary Richardson

According to a report by People, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. fell deeply in love with Mary Richardson in 1993. At the time, he was married to Emily Black, his first wife. However, when the American politician got to know that Mary was pregnant with his child, he arranged for a quick divorce from his first wife, Emily Black. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tied the knot with Mary on April 15, 1994. Isabel Vincent, the investigative journalist, was given access to several private diaries of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. following Mary’s untimely death in 2012. In his private diary, the American politician mentioned that although he had a beautiful wife, kids, loving family, money, good health and a job, he was always seeking something more. He wrote:

"I’ve been given everything that any person could wish for: A beautiful wife and kids and loving family, wealth, education and good health and job I love. And yet I’m always on the lookout for something I can’t have to wreck it all. No matter how much I have, I want more!"

In the book, RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise, investigative journalist, Isabel Vincent mentioned that in various interviews, Mary’s close friends shared that she sank into depression due to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s repeated infidelities. A source close to Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s second wife, Mary Richardson, once revealed that the American politician manipulated Mary and told her crazy. He also called Mary’s accusations mere fantasies. The source addressed Mary as innocent and naive and mentioned that she drank due to immense pain. The source was quoted as saying:

"He definitely gaslit her and told her that she was crazy and that her accusations about other women were fantasies. She was innocent and naive, but she drank, which was classic in the sense of being in pain a lot of the time."

Mary was dealing with depression during her marriage with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. A source who treated her for depression said, She was just 200 per cent invested in being his wife and living the Kennedy lifestyle. Mary was also scared to lose her identity as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s wife. Although, it is unclear that when Mary found out that her husband was a serial cheater, she tried to adjust and tried her best to save her marriage with him. On May 12, 2010, the American politician filed for divorce from Mary. In the book, RFK Jr.: The Fall and Rise, investigative journalist, Isabel Vincent mentioned that Mary didn’t want a divorce. She wrote:

"Mary did not want a divorce, and she did not want to lose custody of her children. In many ways, she was trying to reassure herself that she had been married to a chronic philanderer for nearly 20 years."

Mary Richardson tragically passed away at 52

On May 16, 2012, Mary Richardson committed suicide. She was found dead at her home in Bedford, New York. At the time, she was 52. According to the autopsy report, she died of asphyxiation due to hanging. It was Robert and Mary’s friend, Shannon White, who found her body in the barn after the housekeeper alerted him that Mary was missing.
