When Robert Downey Jr Praised 'Lagaan': Iron Man Called Mr Perfectionist, Aamir Khan 'Extraordinary'

The iconic Hollywood actor, Robert Downey Jr, is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, courtesy of playing the role of a superhero, 'Iron Man', in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). It was in 1970 when RDJ made his acting debut in the film industry with the film, Pound. After his debut, he worked in the films, Weird Science (1985) and Less Than Zero (1987) and the television series, Ally McBeal for which he received a Golden Globe Award. However, soon Robert Downey Jr was charged with drugs and spent some years in the drug treatment program.

Robert Downey Jr: The 'Iron Man'

Just when everyone thought that Robert Downey Jr’s acting career was over, after proving his sobriety, he worked in the film, The Singing Detective (2003). However, it was his performance in Tropic Thunder (2008) for which he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. In the same year, RDJ was offered the role of the superhero comic character, 'Iron Man', in the first film of MCU, Iron Man (2008). The actor went on to play Iron Man in the next 10 films of the MCU and cemented his status as one of the biggest actors in Hollywood.

When Robert Downey Jr praised Aamir Khan’s film, Lagaan

The Hollywood megastar, Robert Downey Jr holds a massive fanbase in India, courtesy of his iconic character, Iron Man, which garnered him so much love and appreciation globally. However, in India, RDJ’s character, 'Iron Man' a.k.a. 'Tony Stark', is exceptionally popular, and everything about him is news to the Indians. However, there are still many people, who aren’t aware of the fact that a few years back, Robert Downey Jr praised Bollywood superstar, Aamir Khan in one of his interviews with a leading daily. Opening up about his thoughts on Aamir’s work in Lagaan, RDJ had called him ‘extraordinary’. He said:

"I happened to see Lagaan and believe Aamir Khan was extraordinary."

Further, in the same interview, Robert Downey Jr was asked about the immense love and admiration that he received from his massive fanbase in India. Answering this, the Hollywood actor admitted that he could not wait to visit India as soon as he would get a chance. RDJ also praised India’s diversity and revealed the three things that came into his mind whenever he heard of ‘India’. He explained:

"India is a land waiting to happen for me and I would love to visit it as soon as I get a chance. All that comes to mind when I hear of this country is diversity, vibrancy and Bollywood boogi."

Robert Downey Jr’s net worth

The Hollywood superstar, Robert Downey Jr is 58 (as of 2023) and still continues to be a part of mega movie projects. The actor will be seen in the ambitious film, Oppenheimer, which will hit theatres on July 21, 2023. In April 2023, after the release of Secret Invasion’s teaser trailer, reports are also rife that RDJ will return to MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as 'Tony Stark' one last time. However, there’s no official confirmation as of now, and it's more of a fan thing. Robert Downey Jr is undoubtedly one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood and has a net worth of 300 million US Dollars.
