Richa Chadha 'Lost A Lot Of Blood' While Delivering Her Baby, Opens Up On Tough Postpartum Phase

The actress, who is pushing forty, had taken a break from acting after childbirth and is now gearing up to resume full-fledged work. Richa Chadha became a mother in July 2024, after she and her husband, Ali Fazal welcomed their first child, a daughter, whom they named Zuneyra Ida Fazal. Before that, her last release was Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. It was tough for Richa to balance her pregnancy and work, so she decided to take some time off. In a recent conversation with News18, the actress opened up about her difficult childbirth experience.
Richa shared that she had lost a lot of blood during her natural delivery, which made her physically weak. She had to extend her acting hiatus because her recovery took longer than expected. Besides the physical toll, the childbirth and postpartum experience affected Richa mentally as well. In her words:
"I couldn't work because I had a natural delivery and I had lost a lot of blood. It took me a long time to recover, health-wise. My brain was foggy."
Richa said that she "wanted to be seen less" and have her proper "nesting period" until her body and mind recovered completely. Although the actress didn't resume acting until a year later, she didn't sit at home doing nothing. Richa recalled "working very hard to get Girls Will Be Girls out" six to eight months after her delivery. She made her debut as a producer with that movie.
Richa said it was very tough for her to work at that time, as her body still hadn't fully recovered. Managing the project's post-production and getting it ready for release while not being at her best in health subsequently affected Richa. Regardless, she was not willing to give up or even slow down. With some rest and vitamin intake, Richa Chadha continued to juggle her busy schedule. She stated:
"I was juggling between striking a deal with the platforms, the release, getting everything ready, and the deliveries. It was a lot. And it really took a toll on my body. I had to rest. I had to take vitamins. Uss time pe, main kya hi bahar jaake kaam karti?"
Richa will now appear in Musafiri, a series she created, wrote, produced, and hosted. She is excited for the release, as it marks her debut in the non-fiction sphere. The eight-episode series is set to air its first episode on September 25, 2026.

Richa Chadha and her husband, Ali Fazal, began dating in 2013 while shooting the film Fukrey. Elaborating, Richa Chadha told News18 that they used to meet once a month and hang out a lot. In her words:
"We used to hang out a lot. We would meet once every month. This was in 2013. We would keep meeting each other in one way or the other, be it at screenings or over meals at our friends' homes."
After frequent meetups, Richa and Ali developed romantic feelings for each other. The couple then went on a few dates to see where their relationship would go and what the future held for them. Richa also mentioned that they didn't tell their co-stars about their relationship when they first started dating. After about seven years of courtship, Richa and Ali registered their marriage in 2020.
After two years, Richa and Ali shared that they couldn't hold a proper wedding ceremony because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Four years into marriage, the couple embraced parenthood with the birth of their daughter, Zuneyra Ida Fazal.
