Just a week into the new year, and it has already turned into a period of mourning for an ordinary American family due to the nation's hostile situation. January 7, 2026, ET was the darkest day of Minneapolis resident, Renee Nicole Good's, life, as she became the victim of an unexpected event. Renee was present at the wrong place at the wrong time, leading to her being killed during an immigration enforcement operation. The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of East 34th Street and Portland Avenue, in a snowy residential area. Here's everything we know about the tragic event which took place in her partner's presence.

On January 7, 2026, Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent during a federal operation in south Minneapolis. Bystander video shows three ICE agents surrounding Renee's vehicle and ordering her to exit. As she reversed and then attempted to drive away, turning her vehicle to the right, an agent standing near the front-left of the car fired three shots in rapid succession through the windshield. She was struck in the head, and her car crashed into a light pole several feet away. After being shot, Renee was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The shooting has sparked national controversy and conflicting accounts from federal and local officials. Witnesses who filmed the event shared the video with the police official and the media. The footage showed the ICE agents as well as Renee and her inconsolable partner. Videos of Renee's car also surfaced, showing the backseat filled with kids' toys, most likely for her children. The little one was at school when her mother tragically passed away in a way no one would have imagined.

Renee Nicole Good was driving with her current partner when they encountered ICE agents on a snowy street. In a video recorded immediately after the shooting, a woman identifying herself as Renee's spouse was seen crying and wailing near the crashed vehicle. Witnesses reported that the unnamed partner was distraught and shouting for help. On seeing Renee's partner in a helpless condition, some bystanders asked her if she knew anyone who could help. The wailing women replied that they were new to the area and didn't know anyone other than their 6-year-old son. Renee's spouse mentioned:
"That's my wife, I don't know what to do!...I have a six-year-old at school... we're new here we don't have anyone...We need a doctor."

Renee Nicole Good was a 37-year-old U.S. citizen and Minneapolis resident who made it to global news following her ICE-related death. Renee originally hails from Colorado Springs, where she lived in the Twin Cities with her partner. Renee's mother, Donna Ganger, described her as compassionate, loving, and forgiving. According to Donna Ganger, she was notified of the death on the morning of January 7, 2025, after which she identified her daughter's body. Regarding Renee, Donna told the Minnesota Star Tribune:
"Renee was one of the kindest people I've ever known. She was extremely compassionate. She's taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being."
Renne reportedly had three children, a 6-year-old son with her former husband, Timmy Ray Macklin Jr. (who died in 2023), and two older children, ages 12 and 15. Following her tragic demise, Timmy Ray Macklin Jr.'s father is seeking the custody of his grandson, citing that the little one has no one to take care of him anymore. However, details regarding Renne Nicole Good's current partner's stance on this matter are unknown. It is not clear whether she will contest for custody or let her stepson live with his grandfather.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials, including Secretary, Kristi Noem, characterised the incident as an act of "domestic terrorism". They alleged that Renee "weaponised her vehicle" and attempted to run over agents after refusing commands to exit the car. U.S. President, Donald Trump described her as a "professional agitator". Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey and City Council members disputed the federal account, calling the self-defence claim "garbage". They described Renee as a community member who was caring for immigrant neighbours. Renee's mother, Donna Ganger, also stated that her daughter was "probably terrified" in her final moments and was not part of any organised protest.

We offer our heartfelt condolences to Renee Nicole Good's family as they deal with her loss.
