His ex-girlfriend, Katherine Early McCollough, committed suicide in March 2026, and the tragedy is back in the spotlight due to Reggie's recent denial of responsibility for her death. Reggie Watts and Katherine Early McCollough's relationship became the subject of intense media scrutiny after a detailed investigative report was published by Rolling Stone in August 2026. It included accounts of her drug addiction and statements from her loved ones regarding her relationship with Reggie. The former couple began dating in late 2023, after which her younger sister, Colleen McCollough reportedly saw Katherine throw her life away with bad habits.
According to the Rolling Stone report, Colleen claimed that her late sister developed an addiction to ketamine and experienced a mental health crisis once she started dating Reggie Watts. Not just Colleen; many of Katherine's loved ones also made similar statements. Colleen went on to make a shocking claim that she believes her elder sister died only because she got involved with Reggie. Her exact words were:
"I feel very strongly that the sister that I knew before this relationship would still be here if she had never met him [Reggie Watts]."
One of Katherine's close friends stated that the deceased had experimented with drugs even before meeting her ex-boyfriend, Reggie. However, they also noted that after the duo started dating, he introduced her to more varieties of illicit substances, which severely affected her mental well-being in the years leading up to her death. Reggie "really took her to the edge," the friend alleged.
Katherine's friend probably meant that even though she was into substance abuse before Reggie came into her life, she allegedly got addicted to it while they dated. After the report, including the comments from Colleen McCollough and Katherine McCollough's other loved ones, got published, Reggie broke his silence on the allegations against him. The comedian shared his stance via his lawyer, Andrew Brettler.
Andrew stated that the report set a "dangerously false" and "preconceived narrative" against Reggie. As per Reggie's lawyer, he was in no way responsible for Katherine's suicide. Andrew Brettler also refuted the claims that Katherine got involved with drugs after dating Reggie. The lawyer described her as an "experienced" drug user who "did not need any so-called encouragement" from her then-boyfriend to experiment with illicit substances.

Katherine and Reggie had a whirlwind romance that began in late 2023 after they met at a party. They reportedly didn't have a monogamous relationship at first, but after Katherine issued an ultimatum about exclusivity, Reggie agreed, and they then "hard-launched" their relationship on Instagram in May 2024. Since then, they have made high-profile appearances together, including attending the World Premiere of 1992 in Los Angeles.
On Valentine's Day 2025, Reggie Watts posted a tribute on Instagram celebrating his one-year anniversary with Katherine. Although their relationship seemed crackless from the outside, heavy drug use (specifically ketamine and psychedelics) allegedly strained it from within. In October 2025, reports regarding their split surfaced, and after five months, she passed away.
On March 28, 2026, 36-year-old Katherine was found dead from an apparent suicide in a hotel room in Lima, Peru, alongside a German national. Five months after her death, a Rolling Stone report was published, following which questions were raised regarding Reggie's alleged role in abetting her suicide.
