As mentioned, Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson were found responsible by the court for the deaths of Mark and Jacob in 2020. In their latest verdict on June 10, 2026, the court has now ordered Rebecca and Scott to pay punitive damages worth USD 20 million. While Scott will pay only USD 1.17 million to the family, Rebecca has been ordered to pay USD 21 million.

The total amount of the compensatory and punitive damages now sums up to USD 198 million. The verdict arrived after a trial that lasted for almost eight weeks. Rebecca’s husband, Peter, was one of the defendants, as he was reportedly the owner of the vehicle that caused the accident, leading to Mark and Jacob’s deaths.

Rebecca Grossman was found guilty on two charges of murder, one charge of hit-and-run leading to someone’s death, and two charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in 2024. While she was sentenced to 15 years, she filed an appeal in the same year. However, the court upheld the allegations, stating that Rebecca was rightfully convicted by the jury for the murder of two kids while she was driving at a speed of 81 mph after drinking at a bar.

Rebecca Grossman and Scott Erickson got involved in the legal trouble after the Iskander family sued the duo in 2021. The lawsuit alleged that Rebecca and Scott were drunk on the night of the incident and were racing on Triunfo Canyon Road, leading to the deaths of Mark and Jacob. A psychiatrist testified that Nancy displayed symptoms of PTSD after her sons were killed on the road. On the other hand, Rebecca and Scott’s legal team dismissed the claims that they were drunk.

Prosecutors said at a trial that Rebecca was allegedly driving her car at 70 mph. Furthermore, she reportedly continued driving after hitting the children until the car stopped at one point. Following the court’s new verdict, Iskander family’s attorney, Brian Panish, said that the jurors realised that Rebecca and Scott must be punished, and it was a message to everyone who has a habit of drinking and driving.
Nancy and Karim also shared a statement after the verdict, saying that they love their children. They said that it was not a good day for the jury since they had to put a dollar value on the lives of two children. However, the couple expressed gratitude by saying:
“Today we thank you, and we thank the jury for delivering the punitive damages verdict today and, along with the previous wrongful death verdict.”
