Kolkata and Durga pujo is a match made in heaven. For the six days of festivity, the city of joy decks up with uniquely designed pandals, rangoli and street lights. With delicacies to die for and a day-long pandal hopping in beautiful traditional attire, Durga pujo in Kolkata is an experience like no other. As October 5, 2022, marked the visarjan of maa Durga, Bengali beauties, Kajol and Rani Mukerji celebrated the day with sindoor khela.
Though away from the city of joy, the actresses did not fail to create the true shades and essence of pujo, for which every Bengali waits the whole year. Even after getting married to non-Bengali actors, Kajol and Rani Mukerji are rooted in their maternal traditions and celebrate every ritual with great pomp and splendour.
October 5, 2022, marked the final day of Durga Puja, also called Maha Dashami. On this day, maa Durga and other deities are immersed in the river Ganga. Before this ritual, married women played sindoor khela with each other. And Kajol and Rani Mukerji were no different as they were seen smearing each other and Kajol's sibling, Tanishaa Mukerji, with sindoor at Mumbai’s pandals. The ladies looked beautiful in traditional white Bengali sarees adorned with red borders. Moreover, Rani also distributed sweets to the paps stationed outside the pandal.
On October 5, 2022, Kajol had taken to her IG handle and dropped a Reel in which we could spot her visiting a grand pandal of North Bombay. She looked pretty in a peach-hued organza saree and a bun. Upon entering the puja mandap, Kajol sought blessings from Goddess Durga, Saraswati, Lakshmi, Ganesh and Kartik. Moreover, she adorably distributed rasgullas to the pandal hoppers. Check it out!
In an old interview with the ETimes, Rani Mukerji had revealed why the festival of Durga Puja is very special to her. The gorgeousness mentioned how the brave stories of maa Durga fighting with Mahishashura had always encouraged her since childhood. In her words:
“Maa Durga is a symbol of Shakti, and since childhood, we have grown up listening to stories of her brave battle with Mahishasura. She has always given me strength from within. Durga Puja is an important time for all Bengalis, as this is one festival where we go all out and celebrate. We hang out with our families, eat our hearts out and soak in our culture.”
We love how Rani Mukerji and Kajol celebrated sindoor khela with one another! What about you?
