After a long time of “are they, are they not”, the couple finally jumped the broom and tied the knot in Italy, on April 21, 2014, in a formal church wedding. The official statement from Yash Raj Studios came as a (much expected) pleasant surprise last month.
As Aditya Chopra celebrates his first birthday after the wedding, we give you all the details and the complete story of B-town's most-speculated weddings ever.
After the formal church wedding, Aditya showed his true romantic side, when, just to make his ladylove happy, had a pundit flown in to Italy! He even wore a traditional dhoti-kurta with the headgear, and Rani donned a traditional red Banarasi saree, with alta (traditional red colour that Bengali brides wear in place of mehendi) on her feet and palms.

A source close to the family was quoted saying, “Adi planned his wedding with the same precision that he plans his movies. He knew that Rani and her family wanted a traditional Bengali wedding. So all rituals were completely Bengali, including the ululation and blowing of conches, and the ceremony where the brother takes his sister on a piri (a wooden seat) around the Holy Fire."
The official statement that confirmed the news, revealed, "We are happy to announce that Mr. Aditya Chopra and Ms. Rani Mukerji got married last night on April 21, in Italy. The wedding was a very small intimate affair with very close family and friends."
The newlyweds had been dating each other for a couple of years now, and had never publicly acknowledged the relationship. When 2014 began, it was quite clear this would be a landmark year for the couple, as reports for a February 14 wedding reached us.

Close sources had earlier disclosed that the two would be tying the knot on the Valentine's Day at Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. But, the 'shy' changed their plans, only to have a private ceremony away from the eyes of the media glare.

Apart from YRF, even Rani issued an official statement, saying, "I would like to share the happiest day of my life with all my fans all over the world whose love and blessings have been part of my journey all these years. I know that all my well-wishers who have waited for this day will be really happy for me."
Giving the details of the wedding, Rani added, "It was a beautiful wedding in the Italian countryside with just a few of our close family and friends with us. The one person I missed terribly was Yash Uncle, but I know he was there with us in spirit and his love and blessings will always be with Adi and me. I have always believed in fairy-tales and with God's grace my life has been exactly like one, and now as I enter the most important chapter of my life - the fairy-tale continues."

Their long-term yet unacknowledged, relationship status had not only kept their fans wondering, but has also left their celebrity friends often confused. Earlier on, during the Koffee With Karan talk show, when Rani's cousin and actress, Kajol, was asked in the rapid fire round, "If you were to ask the following people one thing what would you ask?" When Rani's name came, Kajol wittily said, "When are you getting married, even I would like to know." She also said that she would ask the same question to Aditya Chopra. Well now, not only Kajol, but we all know the answer to this, right?

Rani, as it is for long, had easily and comfortably trickled into the role of playing Chopra family bahu, whether being a hostess at Yash Raj film premieres, or managing the Diwali party celebrations at the Chopra house, last year. So much was the comfort level that even the veteran actor, Shatrughan Sinha, in a public event had addressed the actress as "Rani Chopra".

Film critic, Taran Adarsh, confirmed the news and tweeted, earlier this morning about the event. He wrote, "Aditya Chopra and Rani Mukerji got married last night on 21st April in Italy. The wedding was a very small intimate affair."
