It is officially blockbuster season! For those unaware, one of the most highly anticipated films of 2026, Project Hail Mary, has finally been released in theatres on March 20, 2026. It is a science fiction adventure film produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. While it is written by Drew Goddard, the screenplay is based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Andy Weir. Project Hail Mary stars some of the most well-known faces in the industry, like Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller, James Ortiz, and Lionel Boyce. So, for those wondering whether to hit the theatres to watch Project Hail Mary, here's our review to help you make up your mind.
Drew Goddard is well known for writing scripts for hits like Cloverfield, Cabin In The Woods, High Potential, and Daredevil. While he is back in action, being the screenwriter for Project Hail Mary, the new film might sometimes be reminiscent of one of Drew's other projects, The Martin. This is the part where the audience might feel that Project Hail Mary disappoints a little bit. However, this doesn't mean the film is necessarily bad, because in other areas like dialogue, character development, humour, and more, it's all on point. In that sense, it is safe to say that Drew tapped completely into Andy Weir's sensibilities, the author of the original book.

Coming to the length of Project Hail Mary, it is pretty long and has the potential to be shorter. Although if we take note of the source material that Drew had access to, many important scenes from the book were kept intact in the movie. This has helped the scenes flow nicely, especially after the surprise element introduced in the first act. Another thing which we would like to give Drew Goddard credit for is preserving the relationship between the two main characters. Without it, Project Hail Mary would not have been as heartwarming, funny, and exciting as it is currently. Also, it would have appeared as a boring copy of The Martin, but Drew had done everything to stop it from being so.

With Ryan Gosling being one of the top actors in the industry, there was no doubt that his performance would disappoint in Project Hail Mary from the start, and he did prove us right. Known for his comedic timing, Ryan was essentially the best choice to play the role of the main character, ‘Grace.’ However, beyond the humour, Ryan is also successful in selling the dramatic bits to the audience. Whether you are a fan of Ryan or not, you will definitely leave the movie hall charmed by his acting.

On the other hand, the other main character, Sandra Hüller, also does not disappoint in her performance. In fact, she is the perfect support to Ryan Gosling's character. While there are other actors in the film, after watching Project Hail Mary, most people will agree that it is Ryan and Sandra's show all the way, since the plot doesn't allow too many characters.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have been around in Hollywood long enough to know what works and what doesn't when it comes to directing films. Often deemed as one of the most promising directing duos, things did go sideways for them for some time after they took on the Solo: A Star Wars Story gig. It is safe to say that, with Project Hail Mary, they make a pretty decent comeback, making sure their audience knows they are both capable and talented enough to stay within the confines of the mainstream.

Coming to the visual effects of Project Hail Mary, they are as amazing as they can be. It is worth noting that viewers might feel that the scale is small sometimes, and it adds a sense of intimate claustrophobia, which is essential to the plot.
Overall, it is safe to say that Project Hail Mary is a fantastic blockbuster and a must-watch owing to its good vibes all around.
