A sad Redditor offering condolences wrote, "He lived much longer than doctors thought he would, and that was from the love and support his momma always gave him. What a warrior; hope he is in a better place. Truly free. Holy shit. I have seen that video multiple times whenever it goes around on social media. Poor guy had so much potential."

Colon always needed constant care as he could no longer walk or speak normally. The exact medical cause behind his demise has not been revealed by either his family or doctors. A user speaking about Colon's parents wrote, "His mom shows videos of his improvements almost weekly; people were very engaged with his recovery, since we all felt that US boxing stole one of our stars."

It was on October 17, 2025, when Prichard Colon had a boxing match with Terrel Williams in Fairfax, Virginia. Prichard had complained about the punches he had taken to the back of his head, and a referee had also warned Terrel of the illegal blows.

After the ninth round, Colon removed his gloves and thought that the fight was over as he got disqualified. Prichard then became sick in the dressing room, vomited and then collapsed. Doctors found a large subdural hematoma, which is also known as bleeding around the brain. He underwent an emergency hemicraniectomy so that pressure was reduced and blood was removed.

Prichard's brain was damaged, and after being in a state of coma for 221 days, he was discharged from the hospital in 2016. Prichard's mom stood by him, and he had outlived doctors' expectations. Prichard was left with physical and speech issues and had to be constantly looked after.

It was in 2017 that Prichard's parents filed a lawsuit seeking more than USD 50 million from the ringside doctor and promoters who were present during Prichard's last fight.
