Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleIn a tragic incident, a heavily pregnant woman named Emma Atkinson passed away after falling 90 feet. She was just 38 when she jumped out of a window of a ninth-floor room of Shakespeare Towers in Leeds, England. The most bizarre as well as miraculous part of the incident is that her unborn child survived the fall and was even delivered safely. A recent update on the October 2024 tragedy revealed several unknown details, sparking conversation about the case once again.
Did 38-year-old Emma Atkinson jump from a building intending to kill herself?
Pregnant mother of five, Emma Atkinson visited her father, David Atkinson, in Burmantofts, Leeds on October 22, 2024. At that time, she was about seven to eight months pregnant. Notably, her father resided on the ninth floor of the 10-storey building, Shakespeare Towers. At one point, Emma opened a window to "get some fresh air". Her father requested her to close it, but she said "I'm off" and reportedly deliberately propelled herself outward.
Recently, it was revealed that David told Wakefield Coroner's Court that his daughter asked for a cigarette right before her fatal fall. At that time, Emma sat near the wide-open window, and her father thought that she wanted to smoke. However, her real motive was to jump out from there, as per her father. David told the court that he thinks his daughter visited him on the ill-fated October 2024 night solely for the purpose of propelling herself 90 feet.

An inquest concluded on August 6, 2026, that Emma Atkinson indeed jumped out of the window; however, it might not have been with the intention of killing herself. Detective Constable Emily Parnham said Ms Atkinson's fall from the window at 10:20 am was captured on CCTV, and she "did not appear to be distressed" at that time. Emily further said that the West Yorkshire Police's investigation concluded there was no third-party involvement or suspicious circumstances in Emma's death.
Assistant coroner Naomi McLoughlin ruled that there was insufficient evidence to conclude Emma's death as suicide. While the coroner confirmed that she deliberately climbed out of the window, her alleged motive behind wanting to take her own life could not be established. However, she also mentioned that Emma struggled with her mental health and feared being sent to prison after missing a court appearance days before her death, over an allegation of shoplifting.
Emma Atkinson's unborn baby was miraculously saved after her fall
After Emma Atkinson fell to her death, her unborn baby was miraculously saved. The infant survived the fall and was born by an emergency Caesarean section after her mother's tragic death. The paramedics and doctors at Leeds General Infirmary successfully delivered the baby girl, Posie, just 30 minutes after the tragedy. However, being born in such unusual circumstances, the baby had to go through some health troubles.

Born five weeks premature, baby Posie survived but sustained some minor injuries from the fall, including a fractured tibia and a punctured lung. After spending weeks in intensive care, the child made a full recovery and is now 21 months old, happily being raised by her family. Notably, Posie's late mom, Emma Atkinson was excited about the little one's impending birth, as shared by Emma's parents.
Emma's parents also claimed that she was a devoted mother who loved her kids dearly. The details left the public flabbergasted, and it still remains a mystery whether Emma's fall was intended to kill herself or if other factors were involved.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Emma Atkinson's family as they go through the heartbreak once again due to the court proceedings.
