While promoting the series, the actor has been sharing deeply personal reflections about his life and career. Amid that, his fairytale love story with his movie crush-turned-wife, Jennifer Connelly, has come under the spotlight.
Paul Bettany shared interesting details of his first meeting and romance with Jennifer Connelly
Paul Bettany is one of the very few lucky people who actually got to make his celebrity crush his real-life partner. Jennifer Connelly started off as a child star, landing her first film role in Once Upon a Time in America, at the age of 13. She then starred in Labyrinth opposite David Bowie, which launched her to fame at 16 in 1986. At that time, a 15-year-old Paul fell for the actress and even vowed to marry her.
After 14 long years, Paul finally got the chance to meet the woman of his dreams. He saw Jennifer face-to-face for the first time on the set of A Beautiful Mind, and he was as smitten by her as ever. Paul remembered his attraction to Jennifer was "instant" and stated:
"I've never been this close to someone that beautiful before. I remember thinking, 'I bet every man you ever met has tried to flirt with you.'"
Interestingly, Jennifer Connelly's account of the first meetup is very different. She told Entertainment Weekly, "I remember meeting him at the first read-through. I thought, 'Hmm, he's really good, that guy." At that time, they were committed to different people, so even though they liked each other, they didn't let each other know.

It was during the 9/11 attack that Paul finally confessed his feelings to Jennifer after realizing that during the calamity the only person's safety he was concerned about was Jennifer. He immediately called her and proposed marriage. In his words:
"I remember thinking to myself, 'What are you doing?' Then realizing I was in love. When I finally got hold of her I said, 'I'm coming over, let's get married.' We had never dated."
Then on New Year's Day 2003, barely four months after getting together, Paul and Jennifer tied the knot in a 'Victorian' ceremony. Talking about their whirlwind romance and hasty wedding, the 55-year-old Paul Bettany joked that he was almost like a "stalker." He said he wanted to get hitched as soon as possible before she could find out that behind that polished accent was a school dropout.
The possibility crossed Paul's mind because Jennifer was a Yale graduate and he stopped education at 16. Regarding why Paul had to drop out, he revealed that his brother's untimely death led his mental state to deteriorate, and he started a job instead of continuing his studies. Regarding the disparity in his and Jennifer's academic background, he stated:
"I was like a stalker really. We got married really quickly because I thought she had a three- to six-month window before she sees through the accent. She went to Yale and I left school at 16 so I knew she'd work out that I hadn't read Proust."
Since their wedding, Paul and Jennifer have been living in Brooklyn. The duo welcomed two kids, son, Stellan Bettany and daughter, Agnes Lark Bettany, who live together amicably with Jennifer's eldest son from her previous relationship with Kai Dugan, photographer David Dugan.
