The Kaminey actor shares an equally warm bond with his father, Pankaj Kapur, who is known as one of the finest actors of Bollywood with an array of iconic films like Maqbool, Roja, Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro etc, to his credit. Like any son, Shahid too credits his father for his love for movies. With an iconic father like Pankaj ji, the urge to prove his acting skills has always been high for Shahid. Even when Shahid had made his debut with Ishq Vishq, the entire world had tagged him as a chocolate boy, Pankaj ji was aware that his son is more than that.
According to the reports of Hindustan Times, Pankaj ji revealed that he was well aware of Shahid’s potential as an actor with his very first film. Pankaj ji revealed that when people in the film fraternity and his fans regarded him as a chocolate hero, he knew that there is more to him as an actor. He stated, “Not just because he is my son, but as a colleague and as an actor, I could see the potential in him even 10 years back, when he was only being judged as a good-looking chocolate hero.”
With Shahid’s latest release, Kabir Singh breaking all the box-office records, Shahid was bombarded with mixed reviews for his performance. For some, the character of Kabir Singh was negative but some took it positively and it was Pankaj Kapur, who was all praises for his son. He revealed, “I said 10 years back that he is a dramatic actor and as time will pass, people will see his ability as an actor. And now suddenly people have started recognising -- ‘oh he can do this, he can do that’. According to the veteran star, Pankaj Kapur, an actor is known by his skills and not by the way he looks. According to him, good looks do matter but after a point of time the looks will wear off and what remains is the actor’s skills. An actor will only be remembered for his performances and not the way he looks or carries himself. Pankaj ji has shared the screen space with his son in the movies, Shaandaar and Mausam.
Pankaj Kapur is a very private person and is not very active on social media and it is because of Shahid and Mira, we get to see some rare glimpses of the veteran actor. On August 15, 2018, Shahid and Mira’s daughter, Misha had celebrated Independence Day with her dadaji. Mira had shared adorable pictures of the elated dadaji and his poti from their kite flying moment and had written, “Kite flying with Baba! It’s a happy Independence Day!"
When Shahid’s son, Zain Kapoor was born, Pankaj ji couldn’t hide his happiness. In an interview with the Mumbai Mirror, he had expressed the same and had stated, "It’s the most delightful thing that can happen to any family. Shahid’s family is now complete.
