Pakistani Politician, Maryam Nawaz Dresses Up Like A Bride At 52 For Son's Wedding, Internet Reacts

Famous Pakistani politician and Punjab Chief Minister, Maryam Nawaz's son, married Shanez Ali in a grand wedding ceremony held in Lahore, Pakistan. It was a lavish affair which brought influential families of Pakistan under one roof to bless the newly-married couple. However, soon the focus shifted from the groom, Junaid and his bride to the mother of the groom, Maryam Nawaz, who looked unrecognisable and gave tough competition to the bride.

Maryam Nawaz gets trolled for dressing up as a bride

Nowadays, more and more mothers of the groom and bride dress in a way that puts all the limelight on them, leaving the dulhan sidelined. But at times, these same mothers' transformation for their children's big day proves that they chose one special day to dress up for their heart, not for what the world would think. The 52-year-old Maryam Nawaz's outfit and makeup became the talk of the nation.

For her son's wedding, Maryam wore a traditional mint green lehenga with full-sleeves choli. She styled her look with a huge necklace that covered her neck and a maang teeka. Her glossy, dewy makeup with pink lips and hair tied in a bun completed her look. For the Walima ceremony, Maryam opted for a pink and blue-hued dual lehenga. She styled her look with a dainty neckpiece and matching earrings.

Maryam's other look, which made her stand out, was a yellow and powder orange-hued lehenga. She wore it for her son's mehendi ceremony. The way she covered her head with the dupatta, she gave a tough competition to the bride. Her looks became a topic of concern as people started judging her online for dressing up like a bride.

One user on X wrote, "Why is Maryam Nawaz looking like a bride at her son’s wedding??" Another one commented, "She couldn't do it in her own wedding. They had kind of rushed her wedding for certain reasons." The third user wrote, "Maryam Nawaz and her never-ending obsession with dressing up/acting as a bride." A fourth one on Reddit commented, "She did it to the first bahu, and now she’s doing it again. Self-obsessed, pathetic log."

Another user sided with Maryam and penned, "Every mother has the right to celebrate her son’s wedding with joy and grandeur. Heartfelt congratulations to CM @MaryamNSharif on her son, Junaid Safdar’s wedding! May Allah fill the newlyweds’ lives with happiness, Ameen."

It is worth mentioning that the bride's choice of outfit also sparked online discussion in Pakistan. The bride, Shanzeh Ali, also faced a lot of scrutiny over her outfits as she picked Indian designed rather than Pakistani ones. The bride wore a lehenga from Indian designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for her mehendi. Not only this, for her wedding day, she chose a heavily embroidered red saree from Tarun Tahiliani's collection. She styled her look with a diamond choker with an emerald in the centre. She styled it with a red sheer dupatta pinned over her head. She looked more like a Hindu bride rather than a Muslim one.
