Holding a bachelor party before the nuptial is a way of letting the groom enjoy the last days of his bachelorhood. Traditionally, the party is sponsored and arranged by the bestman of the groom, though other friends also contribute in cash and kind. But the Indian community has lent the ‘desi’ touch of their own to this trend of the West.
The Bachelor Party, as the name defines is for males only. No female participation, except in the form of a waitress or a stripper at the club. There is no hard and fast rule with respect to the marital status of the men and they can very much be invited to the party. Care is taken to not hold it on the eve of the wedding as nobody will approve of groom turning up drunk at his own wedding, or bad still with a hangover.
The officially implied code of conduct is that whatever happens at the party is to be kept between the members only. No way should the details, especially the gross ones be let out so as to land groom in any kind of trouble. Moreover, do not force the groom in committing any kind of debauchery or hazing. The party is for him and it would be far better to keep it according to his tastes and standards.
Decide the venue for the party judiciously, especially when you intend to do a lot of wild and debauched things, have strippers dancing around a pole or minimally attired waitresses doing the services. The last thing one would want is to run into an acquaintance who may report these things to very people from whom this should be kept a secret. If you choose a club for the party then make sure it is not the best club with a lot of Page 3 patrons. Chances are that the wild act may get published on Page 3 of the daily tabloid.
Pay for the services in cash only. Do not use your credit card unless that’s the only option left. There is something known as bank statement giving details of the usage of credit card. You surely do not want your family or spouse to know that you spent some 5000 bucks on a cheap stripper service provider. The act of grace for your groom friend could lead to annulment of your own marriage.
In India the bachelor party is no more than a simple cocktail party where the wildest act the groom may have done is shake a leg or two with the dancers on the dancers on the stage. Instead of strippers, people make do with belle dancers, the Arabian dancers with a lot of emphasis of pelvic thrusts. Rarely there are parties held where the Bride is not invited; yes, you read it right, in India the bride-to-be is also invited along with her few very close cousins and the poor groom even does not dare look at the dancers, forget ogling them or dancing with them.
