Did Olivia Newton Consider Marrying John Travolta? She Was Very Close To Date Him, New Book Claims

British Australian singer and actress Olivia Newton-John was one of the highest-selling female Australian recording artists of all time. She starred in the musical film, Grease, which was the highest-grossing musical film at the time. Olivia’s superhit solos also include I Honestly Love You, Physical, If Not for You and Banks of the Ohio, Let Me Be There and many more.

Why did Olivia Newton-John choose not to marry John Travolta?

Do you know, Olivia Newton was smitten by her Grease co-star, John Travolta and was on the verge of falling in love with him? In her recently released biography, A Little More Love: The Life and Legacy of Olivia Newton-John, author Matthew Hild revealed that Olivia considered marrying John Travolta once.

The author stated that Olivia herself sorted the answer to it. Olivia’s band had a musician who was married to a Scientologist. The band member alleged that Olivia and John were ‘very close’, almost on the verge of a romance.

As per the author, Olivia allegedly asked “a personal question” about the band member’s marriage to a Scientologist since John was a Scientologist. She asked him, “If I had married John, would he have expected me to become a Scientologist?” The band member told her “it would have been encouraged”, but not “mandatory.” To his reply, Olivia said, “Thank you. That’s all I want to know.”

Olivia Newton revealed why she could never date John Travolta despite their close bond

In Olivia and John’s case, destiny played a major role. Both stars shared a very warm bond and were close friends. Despite that, they could never date. In her 2019 memoir, Don’t Stop Believin’, Olivia acknowledged the mutual attraction between her and John and wrote:

“We would never date because we were both involved with other people at the time and both of us have a loyalty streak that runs deep.”

On the other hand, John also contributed a paragraph in the book and shared his version. The handsome actor blamed ‘time’ and shared:

“It almost happened between us a few times, but it didn’t. Sometimes life just offers you the wrong timing.”

Their Grease co-star, Didi Conn, shared her version of Olivia and John’s bond and shared that Travolta’s feelings for Newton-John were unmistakable. As per Daily Mail, Conn once recalled a moment from the film where they were supposed to kiss each other and shared, “They weren’t acting in that moment, it was like he had his chance and he was going to take it. It was real, it really was.”  

Olivia Newton’s two marriages

Olivia Newton got married twice. She tied the knot with actor Matt Lattanzi in 1984, and the couple welcomed their only child, daughter Chloe Rose Lattanzi. However, the duo got divorced in 1995. In 2008, the singer married businessman and environmentalist John Easterling. Olivia announced her breast cancer relapse in 2017. She passed away in 2022 at the age of 73 after her tough fight against the disease.
