The news came as a shock to the world as more and more young people are going under the knife and trying beauty treatments to enhance their look. But sometimes these procedures turn extremely horrific, causing a person to lose their life.
NYPD officer died during cosmetic surgery, her mother revealed doctors hid her passing
The heartbroken mother of an NYPD officer revealed how doctors didn't inform her the truth about her daughter's passing. Instead, they tried to minimise it by stating that her daughter was in critical, after which she rushed to the clinic. For the unversed, Rebecca De Paula died after one week on the island, due to a bacterial infection which she contracted during the cosmetic procedure.
Soon, Rebecca's family demanded a malpractice investigation, as her mother has been claiming that the health officials weren't transparent with her about her daughter's health status. Her mother was quoted as saying:
"They didn’t tell me, ‘She’s dead. They told me she was in a serious condition. My brother rushed me there, I went upstairs, and I saw the empty bed. Something was wrong, I thought. I said, ‘Where is my daughter?’ And my son told me, ‘Mommy, she’s with God.’ That was the only thing he said to me."
However, Dominican authorities have not confirmed Rebecca's cause of death as the investigations are ongoing in the matter. Her remains are set to be flown back to the United States.
In March 2026, Rebecca became the officer of the month for her outstanding police work and dedication. Her achievement was shared on an online Facebook Page, and it read:
"Congratulations to PO De Paula on being named 46th Precinct Officer of the Month for outstanding police work and dedication to the community. Presented by our Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Moran during our March Community Council Meeting."
For the unversed, Rebecca was a mother of three young children and she lived with her husband. The family is in deep pain since her passing. As soon as the news of her passing surfaced, internet expressed their disbeleif. One user wrote on Instagram, "Crazy how these females can say in the same breath “they love their children” but will risk their lives for a set of butt cheeks….. smh."
Another user penned, "Nobody wanna put that work in at the gym … the satisfaction is an amazing feeling." A third user remarked, "She was my neighbor. I'm devastated with the news. Very sweet person and made me feel very welcomed when I moved in Rest in peace, Rebecca."
The officer who trained her also penned a note, which read, "Horrible news. You was such a beautiful soul. You would say god bless you instead of hi. You had so many good questions. You had such a bright future. You will be missed by your family, friends and colleagues. May you rest in peace." A user commented, "Some people can’t help but leave an imprint on you that you will never forget… She was one of those people… Rest well, Depaula."
