NFL Reporter, Dianna Russini Resigns From The Athletic Amid Mike Vrabel Photo Controversy

Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel have been constantly grabbing the headlines for the last couple of days. The duo faced tremendous online scrutiny from fans and the media alike after Page Six posted a series of snaps of their alleged PDA, with many thinking that they are cheating on their current spouses. The photos were reportedly taken last month, on March 28, 2026, at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. Now, amid the speculations about the nature of their relationship, Dianna Russini has reportedly resigned from her job at The Athletic.

It has been a week since Page Six exclusively released photos of Dianna Russini, 43, with New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel, 50. In the photos, the duo were seen holding hands, hugging, and lounging together at the Ambiente resort. Now, a while ago, on April 14, 2026, Dianna, a longtime NFL reporter, announced that she would leave her job at The Athletic. According to reports, Dianna sent a letter to Athletic executive editor, Steven Ginsberg, which the Associated Press obtained. As per the outlet, Dianna wrote in her letter:

“I have covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published. When the Page Six item first appeared, The Athletic supported me unequivocally, expressed confidence in my work and pride in my journalism. For that I am grateful.”

Dianna went on to write that in the days that followed, several commentators in various media “have engaged in self-feeding speculation that is simply unmoored from the facts.” To mention, she called the entire ordeal unfortunate. According to Dianna, this media frenzy is ongoing without regard for the review process her employer, The Athletic, is trying to complete. She claimed that the situation keeps escalating, fuelled by repeated leaks, and that she has no interest in submitting to a public inquiry, as it has already caused her more damage than she is willing to accept. Dianna concluded the letter by stating:

“Rather than allowing this to continue, I have decided to step aside now — before my current contract expires on June 30. I do so not because I accept the narrative that has been constructed around this episode, but because I refuse to lend it further oxygen or to let it define me or my career.”

It is “business as usual” on the New England Patriots head coach, Mike Vrabel's side, despite the ongoing controversy

Now that Dianna Russini has announced she is resigning from her job at The Athletic, it goes to show how deeply the ongoing controversy has affected her. However, as of now, the same cannot be said for Mike Vrabel. According to a New England Patriots executive, head coach, Mike, is busy focusing on the upcoming NFL draft. It was during the pre-draft press conference held on Monday, April 13, 2026, that the team's vice president of player personnel was asked about Mike's involvement in player evaluations over the past week, especially since his and Dianna's photos from the resort in Arizona are going viral. To this, Eliot Wolf's headline-grabbing response was, “Very involved. Business as usual. He's been in there with us a little more than he was last year.”

Eliot reportedly went on to add that Mike has been contributing and has watched a ton of the players.  According to a USA Today report, Mike was not scheduled to address the media at the aforementioned press conference. The last time he appeared before reporters was on March 31, 2026. To mention, this was just a couple of days after he and Dianna were originally photographed together, although their pictures weren't published by Page Six before April 7, 2026.
