Now, the show has recently released its Episode 15 titled Knick-Knack on April 7, 2026 (ET), following a routine tour aboard the World War II museum ship that turns deadly when a hidden compartment reveals the body of the retired Naval Captain, 'Miles Griffin'. The corpse is found in the uniform with a cryptic message written in blood. The findings lead to a gripping investigation filled with coded clues and long-buried secrets, set to unravel some heavy situations.
As the 'NCIS' team follows the trail, the case quickly becomes more than just about the murder of Captain, 'Miles Griffin'. What began as a puzzling crime scene evolves into a deeper story involving a rare artefact, a hidden wartime past and a shocking betrayal from one's own family. The findings soon led to another revelation about a family secret, leaving everyone shocked. So, as 'NCIS' tackles the mystery of Captain 'Miles's' death, let's see what exactly happened in Episode 15 of NCIS Season 23. Warning: Spoilers ahead!
In NCIS Season 23 Episode 15, the quick visit to the World War II museum ship turned into a complex investigation after a young girl touring the old vessel accidentally triggered a hidden mechanism, opening a hidden vault, revealing the dead body of the retired Naval Captain, 'Miles Griffin'. The captain, lovingly known as 'Griff', had been living aboard the ship as its curator. His dead body was found dressed in his Marine uniform, having tried to escape after being attacked in his quarters. Before dying, he left behind a chilling message written in blood: "Keep it safe". That cryptic phrase becomes the cornerstone of the NCIS investigation.
As the team digs deeper, they discover 'Griffin' lived modestly and avoided modern technology. Among his few belongings, what stood out was a 1946 medal, which he deliberately pinned to his uniform before his death. Agent, 'Jessica Kinght' delves deeper into what the medal could mean and connects it to 'Griffin's' personal notes, which reference Marine Major, 'James Kirby'. However, what the agent found strange was how 'Kirby' had been receiving monthly payments from the museum, despite having been dead for decades. The revelation leads 'NCIS' to a secondary location tied to the naval captain. However, what 'Jessica' found there left them all stunned, a startling clue: a rare dinosaur bone hidden away.
The discovery of the dinosaur bone shifts the investigation dramatically. While valuable, the artefact raises serious questions about its origin. 'NCIS' tracks 'Griffin's' contacted and brought 'Bethany Lipton' in for questioning, who later revealed that a wealthy Austrian buyer named 'Fabian Druker', had expressed interest in purchasing the bone. The wealthy man admits his interest but insists no transaction ever occurred. However, the series of shocking events appeared to be far from over as a lab analysis revealed another twist: the bone in custody is a fake. The real artefact had been swapped. As initial suspicion fell on the museum assistant, 'Nora', investigators began to suspect she may have been coerced.

As the truth unfolds, 'NCIS' uncovers that the artefact has a deeper history than any of them anticipated. Major, 'Kirby', had discovered the bone in Germany during World War II and entrusted it to 'Griffin'. However, rather than selling it, 'Griffin' spent years trying to return the artefact to the family from whom it was stolen during World War II. The revelation reframed the naval captain's last message: "Keep it safe" was not about profit but about protection.
The case soon took a dangerous turn when 'Drunker' kidnapped 'Nora' in an attempt to recover the original bone. During the rescue operation, 'Jessica' is shot in the arm before the team manages to get 'Nora' to safety. However, the biggest twist came from 'Griffin's' own family. 'NCIS' uncovered that it was the naval captain's grandson, 'Kevin', who had been approached to persuade his grandfather to sell the artefact. However, when 'Griffin' refused, the confrontation escalated, ultimately leading to his death. 'Kevin' had dismissed 'Griffin's' simple lifestyle, believing there was nothing of value hidden.
By the end of the episode, the full truth comes to light. 'Drunker's' involvement is exposed as 'Kevin' is revealed as the killer, clearing 'Nora's' name of all wrongdoing. The original dinosaur bone's history is well documented, and arrangements have been made to return it to its rightful owners. The episode closes on a reflective note, with 'Jessica Knight' contemplating her family history after discovering her great-grandfather's glasses, echoing its central theme: preserving the past.
