He is survived by his wife, Pam, and their two sons, Burt Myers and Jason Myers. According to reports, Gary died on September 10, 2026. Through separate posts on Facebook, Burt and Jason paid their heartfelt tribute to their dad.
Who was Gary Myers?
Gary Myers was a veteran stock car racing driver. He was part of four generations in his family who participated in race car driving. He was preceded by his father, Billy Myers, and his uncle, Bobby Myers, and Burt and Jason, 47, then followed suit. Gary competed in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, NASCAR Grand National East Series. and NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour. He also won the SMART Modified Tour championship.
Gary also secured the SMART Modified Tour championship in 1996. However, for racing enthusiasts in Winston-Salem, Gary was recognized as a legendary figure at Bowman Gray Stadium. The racing establishment paid its last respects to him. They mentioned that Gary won 38 times at Bowman Gray in Modified competition. They shared their condolences with his family. Sharing the note on X (formerly Twitter):
"Our Bowman Gray family is saddened by the loss of Gary Myers. Gary earned 38 wins at Bowman Gray in Modified competition, in a career that also saw him make starts in the NASCAR Cup Series and Grand National Series. Our thoughts are with his wife Pam, sons Burt and Jason, grandson Slate, and the entire Myers family."
The exact cause of Gary Myers’ death has not been made public. However, some reports state that his health had been getting worse before he died. At the time of his death, Gary was 76. Burt took to his Facebook handle to express his grief over his father’s passing. He called Gary his "hero." He mentioned that his father fought hard to survive but was very tired. He added that Gary taught him everything that he knows. He wrote:
"Last night I lost my hero. My daddy is in Heaven and can finally do the things he wanted to do the last several years. Thank God for the times we had. Selfishly, I want him here, but I know he is much better off now. I miss him so much. I love you, Daddy."
A carousel featuring Jason Myers and his dad, Gary, was dropped on Jason’s Facebook page. The note said Gary was the patriarch of the Myers family. It stated that Gary was Jason’s best friend. He taught both his sons everything that they know and had touched so many people along the way. The note can be read as:
"Last night we lost our patriarch. Gary was Jason’s best friend. He taught him and Burt everything they know and touched so many people along the way. To know him was to love him. Rest easy, legend. You will be with us always."
Meet Gary Myers' family
Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Pam, their two sons, Burt and Jason Myers, and grandson, Slate Myers. While Burt and Jason followed their dad’s footsteps in car racing, Burt’s son, Slate, has also begun a racing career of his own. Last month, in August 2026, Burt Myers won a race at Bowman Gray Stadium. This was his 108th combined career victory at that stadium. With this win, Burt broke the record for the highest number of combined wins at the venue. It was also his fifth victory of the 2026 racing season.
