However, the ink led many to question whether the U.S. Rep. was using it to cover her pain, especially when it came to relationships.
For the unversed, Nancy Mace previously revealed that she got nine tattoos in a short period between late 2023 and early 2024. She admitted that the experience gave her "the pain that I need to feel" and helped her "reclaim" her body and identity. The tattoos came during a difficult period in her personal and professional life, including the end of her engagement with Patrick Bryant and the departure of several staffers from her congressional office.
However, many fans feel that the story ran deeper than just her engagement. Speaking to Politico earlier in 2026, Nancy Mace described herself as "totally broken" and said she had PTSD from what she had experienced. Nancy Mace is currently single and healing from the experiences that left her "totally broken". However, before that, she was married twice and engaged for a third time. While none of them lasted, they had a deep impact on Mace's life. The US rep was first married to Chris Niemiec, a fellow graduate of the Citadel. He later became an Air Force JAG officer in 1999.
While their romance was private, their separation came just as quietly. After three years of marriage, Nancy Mace and Chris Niemiec divorced in 2002. While the reason for the end of their relationship was never made public, it seemed to have left a great impact on Mace. Despite the first heartbreak, Mace didn't give up on love and married software engineer and businessman Curtis Jackson in 2004. They divorced in 2019 after about 15 years of marriage.
The end of the marriage left Nancy Mace heartbroken. While they never opened up about the reason for their divorce, the couple did drag each other to court over custody of their two children: a son, Miles, and a daughter, Ellison, also known as Elli. The presiding judge ruled in favor of joint custody, and since then, they have been co-parenting amicably. "I've been divorced twice. Don't recommend it. Not even a national divorce."
However, that was not the end of her heartbreak; Nancy Mace gave love another go with a software entrepreneur, Patrick Bryant. The two were engaged from 2022 until late 2023. However, the engagement ended before they married. And this time, the end was extremely public; the US rep was vocal about the end of her relationship. Mace accused Bryant of severe sexual misconduct and physical abuse, while Bryant sued Mace for defamation, alleging she fabricated the claims to blackmail him over property.
