Add BollywoodShaadis on GoogleToday show co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie's disappearance has been one of the most high-profile cases in 2026. Despite nearly five months of her disappearance, authorities have not named any suspects leaving the case in uncertainty. But, recently, a former FBI agent revealed that a major arrest could be in the pipeline. Her comments come at a time when the case is back in headlines after inside details from ransom notes linked to the 84-year-old's disappearance went viral.
Former FBI special agent, Maureen O'Connell recently shared a major update about the case on Megyn Kelly's radio show. She explained that investigators could be getting closer to identifying and arresting the mysterious masked man, better known as "porch guy" in Nancy Guthrie's case. For those unaware, the anonymous man drew attention after he was seen outside Nancy's home at night when she disappeared from her home. In fact, Maureen claims that she is 75% sure that authorities are making significant progress in the investigation.

The FBI agent's comments immediately became a subject of discussion because the authorities have decreased their updates about the 84-year-old's alleged kidnapping in the past few days. So, she believes the investigators might be carefully piecing the case together before taking any action. According to Maureen, the lengthy wait of around five months in the case does not necessarily mean that the investigation lost evidence. Instead, she believes that they are preparing for a major legal battle after the arrests.

The former FBI personnel explained that the authorities might be building the case with future predictions in mind. Since the defence attorneys will also likely betray every piece of law enforcement, they need to ensure that everything is strong, even if they remove something during the trial. Maureen noted that major criminal investigations are often based on months of behind-the-scenes work before the arrests become public. Her comments have further fueled speculation that authorities may already have sufficient evidence about the person seen on Nancy's porch. In her words:
"From day one, you're doing your trial prep, practically. Everything you do is geared toward the trial and prosecution. You're going to have the greatest defence attorney in the world handling this case, whoever takes this case, so you have to operate under the assumption that a couple of big chunks of your evidence may get tossed."

The Nancy Guthrie case has also become complex due to contradictory reports from news agencies about the ransom notes. Previously, investigators reportedly believed that two ransom notes were authentic. According to those reports, the first message asked for millions of dollars in Bitcoin and stated that Nancy "was scared but alive". But the note reportedly contained details about her property that only someone who had been there might know. Meanwhile, a second note allegedly took a darker turn.

He reportedly had an apology and claimed that Nancy accidentally died. Some reports even claimed that the message offered information about returning her remains in exchange for payment. However, the recent reporting from TMZ has challenged the narrative. The outlet stated that while the FBI considered some communications credible, the note did not directly confirm Nancy's death. The outlet also revealed that it got multiple emails from a person claiming to know about the kidnapper's and Nancy's whereabouts. Although the sender hinted that "time was no longer the essence", he never clearly claimed that Nancy died.

Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her Tucson home during the early hours of February 1, 2026. Meanwhile, authorities have long treated the case as a suspected kidnapping. Since then they have followed numerous leads, reviewed the surveillance footage and understood ransom communications with federal agencies. But despite months of efforts, no arrests have been announced. At the same time, Nancy has not been found. Savannah Guthrie also publicly spoke about the emotional toll of the disappearance on her family. Still, she repeatedly thanked her supporters while expressing hope that they would eventually get some answers.
What you think about former FBI agent, Maureen O'Connell's perspective about the possible arrest of "porch guy " in Nancy Guthrie case might be around the corner?
