On May 12, 2026, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos opened up about the latest updates in the Nancy Guthrie missing case to local news station, KGUN-TV. He acknowledged Nancy’s family members’ pain and stress, as there has been no update about her whereabouts. She was last seen by her daughter, Annie and her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni. Chris assured Nancy’s family members that they are not giving up and will continue making efforts in the case. In his words:
"Every passing second to that family probably seems like 100 days. So yeah, there’s a lot of stress there for them, but they just need to know that we’re not giving up."

During the same conversation, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos got candid about the DNA analysis. He mentioned that they have a good DNA sample, and it is being worked on in several labs. He added that to get an accurate and solid result in DNA, it takes time. He was quoted as saying:
"We know we have some very good DNA, and that DNA is being worked with by several labs. You know, I get the frustration. Everybody wants to know what’s going on, what you have, but we have rules, and science has rules. They have guardrails in place to make sure that that science is solid, that they understand the importance of their DNA analysis."

The Nancy Guthrie missing case has been dominating the headlines for over three months now. On March 22, 2026, Savannah Guthrie and her family issued an official statement drawing renewed attention to Nancy’s case. They expressed their grief over her disappearance. The family mentioned that they deeply missed Nancy. In the statement, the Guthrie family mentioned that their only focus is to find out Nancy’s whereabouts and bring her home safely.

But as Nancy’s missing case hits 100 days, there has been speculation that the investigation might go cold soon. However, during the conversation with local news station, KGUN-TV, Chris Nanos clarified that as they continue to closely examine the forensic evidence, video footage, and tips from people, the high-profile case is far from getting cold. He added that there has been some vital information that is being withheld from the public to "protect the integrity of the case."

Further in the same conversation, Pima County Sheriff, Chris Nanos shared that although the number of tips coming in has waned, he is still hopeful about the missing case. Chris mentioned that he is pretty confident that he will succeed in finding Nancy’s whereabouts. He added that the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI will together surely resolve this high-profile case. He was quoted as saying:
"I’ve just got all the confidence in the world. This case will not go cold. We will, we will resolve it."
