The painstaking search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of TV anchor Savannah Guthrie, has now stretched to its sixth day. Ever since the elderly woman, labelled a "vulnerable adult", went missing from her home in Arizona, the Pima County Sheriff's Department has been relentlessly searching for Nancy's whereabouts. Given her age-related health issues and a heart condition that requires consistent monitoring, the Guthrie family and the investigators are growing increasingly concerned about her life. The recent updates on Nancy Guthrie's kidnapping case have closed in on what might be her final movements before going missing.
During a press conference on Thursday, February 5, 2026, authorities from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, along with the FBI, shared some new details about what they found at Nancy Guthrie’s home. Sheriff Chris Nanos shared a graphic timeline, titled “Nancy Guthrie Approx. Timeline”, breaking down whatever has been confirmed from the time Nancy was dropped off on Saturday night to the time the patrol arrived the next day.

According to the timeline, Nancy had headed to visit a local family’s home on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at 5:32 PM. Sheriff Nanos said she had travelled via Uber: "Nancy travels to her local family's home for dinner and playing games with the family, just visiting.” Hours later, at 9:48 PM, her family dropped her off at home, and it was later confirmed that her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni, had driven her. Her garage door closed at 9:50 PM. That was the last time anyone saw Nancy.

After midnight, i.e. on February 1, 2026, Nancy’s doorbell camera disconnected around 1:47 AM, but the software still detected a person on the camera, reportedly at 2:12 AM. However, the face of that “person” couldn’t be seen, reportedly due to “no subscription” on the software. Just minutes later, inside the house, Nancy’s pacemaker app disconnected from her phone and Apple watch, which was still plugged into a charger when the police arrived at the scene.

According to the app's time, Nancy’s last known moment in the house was around 2:28 AM. At around 11:56 AM, Nancy’s family checked on her after she failed to attend the Sunday church meeting. And by 12:03 PM, the 9-1-1 call was made. First responders from the PCSD arrived at the scene at 12:15 PM.

In a previous report, a journalist named Ashleigh Banfield cited a law enforcement source and claimed that Nancy’s son-in-law, Annie Guthrie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, might be the “prime suspect” in her abduction case, noting that he was the last person who saw her on Saturday night. During an episode of the Drop Dead Serious podcast, Banfield claimed that Cioni may have “some connection” with Nancy’s car.

Now, responding to the “suspect” tag, Sheriff Nanos labelled the claim as “reckless” for a journalist’s part, given that there was no verified confirmation about it from the department. However, no one is being eliminated from the investigation at this time. The sheriff said at Thursday’s press conference:
"Nobody’s eliminated, but we just really don’t have enough to say, ‘This is our suspect, this is our guy, we know — or our gal.’ We don’t know that. And it’s really kind of reckless to report that someone is a suspect when they could very well be a victim.”
The investigators discovered traces of blood at Nancy Guthrie’s property, some inside the house, some on the front porch, and some on the doorway. On February 5, 2026, the PCSD confirmed that the blood sample matches Nancy’s DNA, and it has raised concerns about the elderly woman’s health and safety.

With no suspects identified even after five days of search, the FBI is now appealing to the public to help them find Nancy Guthrie, describing her disappearance as a “race against time”. Every second counts, and the authorities are keeping no stone unturned to trace the 84-year-old, who in no way could walk the 50 yards of her property with her limited mobility. Regardless, PC Sheriff Nanos remains optimistic that Nancy “is still out there” and wants her back home.

The PCSD is offering a reward of up to USD 2,500 for information related to Nancy’s disappearance, encouraging “any video or photograph information” from the scene near her home around the timeline of her abduction. On the other hand, the FBI has announced a USD 50K reward for anyone who could offer any information about Nancy Guthrie’s recovery or the identification of the perpetrators. In a social media post, the authorities wrote:
"The #FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the recovery of Nancy Guthrie and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in her disappearance. She was last seen at her residence in the Catalina Foothills neighbourhood of Tucson, Arizona, on the evening of January 31, 2026."
Amid Nancy’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie has stepped away from hosting the Today show and cancelled her Winter Olympics hosting duty. Her morning broadcast’s co-host, Craig Malvin, has also stepped away from covering the Olympics in Milan.
