It's been over four months since Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Today Show host, Savannah Guthrie, disappeared from her Arizona home under mysterious circumstances. Nancy was last seen at midnight on January 31, 2026, by her son-in-law, Tommaso Cioni (husband of Annie Guthrie). After the investigation, the FBI released CCTV footage of a masked person of interest, and the internet has been buzzing with theories about who matches the individual's physical stature. Recently, a rumoured name, Coral Michelle Smith, surfaced after the Pima County Sheriff's Department listed her as a wanted criminal.
Coral Michelle Smith is a 40-year-old woman with a history of criminal activity. She was recently named as a wanted fugitive and career criminal by the Pima County Sheriff's Department in Arizona. As per the details shared by the officials, Coral is 5'6" in height and weighs 136 pounds. She reportedly has blonde hair, blue eyes, and some tattoos, including a smiley face/heart on her ankle. Her known aliases include 'Under The Sea Smith'. The Pima County Sheriff's Department issued a USD 1,000 reward for information leading to her arrest.

Notably, this is not the first time Coral Michelle Smith has found herself at the centre of criminal activities. According to court records obtained by TMZ, she was sentenced to prison in 2020 after being found guilty of robbery. The case also involved charges of kidnapping and drug possession; however, those were later dropped. Earlier, in 2011, Coral was convicted of the same offence, i.e., robbery. Additionally, she was found guilty of trespassing, attempted vehicle theft, and disorderly conduct over the years.

Coral Michelle Smith is currently wanted for an active investigation involving kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The incident took place on May 29, 2026, near the intersection of West River Road and North La Cholla Boulevard in Tucson, Arizona. The crime took place just seven miles away from 84-year-old, Nancy Guthrie's house, as per the police officials. The close proximity of the assault site and the abode from where Savannah's mom went missing sparked speculation that Coral could be wanted in connection with the Nancy Guthrie case. However, the Pima County officials refuted the possibility, stating:
"This case is not related to the Guthrie investigation."

Some social media users claimed that the recently released security camera footage of a masked person of interest in Nancy Guthrie's case matches Tommaso Cioni's physical profile, specifically his facial hair (moustache and beard). The chatter around Tommaso began after NewsNation journalist, Ashleigh Banfield claimed on her podcast that he was a "prime suspect" in Nancy's case, citing an unverified law enforcement source.

The speculation was refuted by reporter, Jonathan Lee Riches (popularly known as JLR), who claimed, "Tommaso Cioni is much taller than 5 ft 9 - 5 ft 10." If his words are to be believed, then it almost rules Tommaso out as being the masked person of interest. Additionally, the Pima County Sheriff ruled him and the rest of Nancy's family off the suspect list. However, the public still remains suspicious of Nancy Guthrie's son-in-law's involvement in the criminal act. A prime reason for it is that Tommaso and his wife, Annie were denied financial help by Nancy days before the latter's disappearance.
