The tragic death of Coral Springs Vice Mayor, Nancy Metayer Bowen on April 1, 2026, has raised many questions. As per the initial findings, Nancy’s untimely death was stated to be a case of ‘domestic violence’. Soon after Nancy’s body was discovered, her husband, Stephen Bowen, was taken into custody. As per the latest reports, Nancy’s husband, Stephen’s relatives knew that her life was in danger.

As per the latest reports, Nancy’s husband, Stephen’s relatives urged police to break down the door of her home as they knew that she was in danger. About a half hour before tactical officers forced their way inside Nancy’s home, Stephen’s relatives called 911 and told the officials to break in ‘by whatever means.’

Police were already at Metayer Bowen’s house after her colleagues raised an alarm about her well-being after they didn’t hear from her. Nancy had missed a city council meeting and a charter school board meeting, and her colleagues were concerned about her. When the officers went to her home, they didn’t find anyone at home.

Why did Stephen Bowen’s relatives ask the officers to break in at Nancy Bowen’s home?

While the officials reached Nancy’s home, a woman related to her asked the dispatcher to tell the police to break down the door and said, ‘Tell them to break down the door’. But when the officials told her that they did not have a reason to do so, nor a warrant. A man, identified as Nancy’s husband, Stephen Bowen’s uncle, got on the phone and said, ‘I’m going to give you a reason.

In a conversation he had with his nephew that morning, the man said Stephen told his uncle that he “did something to” Matayer Bowen. When he asked Stephen, ‘if she was alive, he said no.’ He also told the officials that Stephen had asked his uncle to hold onto a shotgun for a couple of weeks. When Stephen’s uncle asked him whether he had shot anyone with it, Stephen replied that he had shot his wife three times.

After a domestic brawl, Stephen, in a fit of anger, shot his wife, Nancy, three times. When the police officials broke in at her home, Nancy’s body was found wrapped in a blanket. Stephen’s parents told the officers that when they spoke to him, Stephen told them that he had experienced a panic attack at work and planned to speak with his wife about it. His mother told police she was unaware of any marital problems between the couple.

When search operations were carried out at the Bowen’s Coral Springs home, detectives found three spent shotgun shells wrapped in blankets with Metayer Bowen’s body. A pillow with burn marks and a string was also found inside the house. A preliminary examination showed a gunshot wound to Metayer Bowen’s left shoulder.
